Today we’d like to introduce you to Kami Kenna
Hi Kami, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From Idaho and left to see the world.
I have an MA in Food Studies from New York University, my work focused on the cultural beverages from Latin America. My thesis work was centered on pisco from Peru and culminated in a database dedicated to pisco.
I have lived between Peru, Mexico, and the US for the last 10 years. I am a partner of a small women-owned pisco brand, PiscoLogía, and importing company, Topa Spirits, LLC.
In Mexico, I work for a boutique agave spirits tour outfit, Experience Agave, leading educational tours in Jalisco and Oaxaca.
I am a Panamerican Beverage and Bar Consultant, consulting for bars, restaurants, and distilleries from Brooklyn to the Sacred Valley of Peru based in Oaxaca, Mexico.
I love invesitgating the origins of food and drink, they tell our stories long after we are gone.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
NO!
I have wrestled with self-doubt and feeling lost, but somehow I have carved a path for myself that I am proud of. I have approached each phase of my life with a kid-like curiosity and steadfast commitment.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a distiller, drinks formulator, and beverage consultant that values the raw materials used and the communities that steward them. Apart from this creative work, I am a partner with a pisco brand, PiscoLogía, women made and women owned that is taking on the pisco category with education first – check us out!
How do you define success?
I have no idea – for me, personally, success feels like contentment. Content in my body, mind, and bank account.
