Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay David
Hi Jay, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in the video game industry, where I spent over 15 years (2005–2021) contributing to some of the biggest titles in gaming, including Call of Duty, Destiny, Doom 3, Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, and so many more. It was an incredible time that taught me how to craft immersive experiences and visuals that connect with audiences on a global scale.
After retiring from the gaming industry, I began exploring photography as a creative outlet. What started as a personal passion quickly grew into something bigger. Covering events like AVN Expo and XBIZ Conference served as a proving ground for my skills, allowing me to develop the technical and artistic side of event photography in dynamic and fast-paced environments.
Since then, I’ve had the privilege of photographing iconic figures like Snoop Dogg, Sage Erickson, and Busta Rhymes. By 2022, I established my event photography brand, Jay’s Playhouse, as a space where I could fully explore my passion for documenting the candid, high-energy moments that make events unforgettable. Whether it’s an intimate Friendsgiving or a high-energy red carpet premiere, I’ve built my career on finding and showcasing the stories that unfold in real time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So here’s a fun (and slightly chaotic) story from an event at the Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas. The plan was simple: cover the pool party and conference panels with my main camera rig. But when we arrived, security stopped us at the pool entrance, saying no professional cameras were allowed—despite us having clearance beforehand. No problem, I thought. I swapped my Sony for my Samsung phone and started capturing poolside shots.
About an hour later, we got the green light to bring our cameras into the pool area. Great, right? Not quite. After covering the pool for a bit, I headed back to the conference area to grab panel and happy-hour photos. On my way back to the pool, I ran into the crew, who told me Sahara management had reversed the decision again—no cameras allowed.
What followed was a crazy game of back-and-forth: dropping my main Sony camera in my room, using my phone for pool shots, then swapping back to my Sony for conference coverage. Rinse and repeat. Oh, and since it was Vegas in the summer, my phone overheated a lot, so I had to dunk it in the pool to cool it down (shoutout to Samsung for making some highly water-resistant phones).
In the end, it was a wild test of adaptability and my phone’s camera capabilities. And honestly? I’m pretty thrilled with the results. This experience pushed me to think creatively and make the most out of a less-than-ideal situation. Also, fun fact: none of this was an issue last year when I used my main camera at the same venue. Go figure.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My success with Jay’s Playhouse wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support and guidance of a few key individuals. Rick Garcia, known as @industrybyrick on X.com, has been a phenomenal mentor since I entered the photography field. He not only helped me expand my network but also shared invaluable tips and tricks that elevated my camera work. Watching Rick work—especially his skillful way of directing people to pose—has been both inspiring and educational.
Rick also introduced me to Austin King, who has become a continuous partner and supporter of my work. Austin is a big fan of my photography and frequently hires me to create galleries for his site. Collaborating with him has been a rewarding experience and a significant part of my growth.
I also owe a lot to Gustavo Turner (Instagram: @gustavoturner), a highly talented writer and exceptional photographer. His ability to find art in the mundane and his noir-like photography style are truly inspiring. Over the years, Gustavo has become one of my closest friends, and our thought-provoking conversations about art and beyond have been invaluable.
Lastly, I want to give a special shoutout to Ivan (@iamslivan on Instagram), who, in a short time, has become another of my closest friends and biggest supporters. His encouragement has been a constant source of motivation and positivity as I continue to grow my brand.
These individuals have played a pivotal role in my journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for their mentorship, support, and belief in my vision.
