Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Maureen Lu
Amber Maureen, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It’s so hard to know where to start because it’s hard to define just exactly what I am 😆 I suppose it really depends on the day.
I’m the emcee of CatCon which is the biggest cat convention in the world (think Comic Con but for cat people) and I’m also a plus-size model & content creator.
When a brand reaches out looking to hire me the first question I always have to ask is do you want me or my cat?
One of the first “big” modeling jobs I had I was brought in for a themed holiday shoot. The call sheet listed all the other models by name but for me it just said
“@eatdrinkcat BRING CAT”
My focus is on being fashionable at any size and being happy in your own skin.
Life is too short not to live authentically.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has been very organic. Opportunities come up and I take them when I can.
I’ve done some amazing projects including one that ended up on a huge billboard in Times Square! But there are some circumstances where I have to say no for both myself and my cats because it’s not safe or just not a good fit.
You won’t see me schilling weight-loss products and we never do anything that is unsafe for the cats or that could stress them out.
We love working with brands like Travel Cat that make cat backpacks and Motel 6 which is a cat friendly hotel.
We love showing that cats can be great travel companions (even better than dogs in some ways) and love to showcase out travel adventures.
My goal for the next year is to work with more hotels to promote traveling with cats.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a plus size model and content creator @eatdrinkcat
I’m also the emcee (coming up on the 4th year!) for CatCon, the biggest cat convention in the world.
I have 2 cats that I work with often in my content creation. We do some pretty big brand deals most of which are car focused.
(I also have 2 rabbits but all they do is spend the money the cats make.)
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
There are so many great women-owned small fashion brands that love working with creators and give us opportunities to work with them.
Some of my favorites that I’ve worked with lately are:
Blue Platypus Clothing
Wax Poetic Clothing
Heart of Haute clothing
Weasel Wear Clothing
Softcore Clothing
TravelCat
And also CatCon for letting a fat cat girl emcee the show 🙂
