Today we’d like to introduce you to Major Gurjeet Singh.
Major Gurjeet, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I joined Army immediately after completing my Bachelor of Science Degree & became an officer at the age of 21 as 2nd Lieutenant in Corps of Engineers in Indian Army.
Served in Indian Army till 1995 & took premature retirement. I did my post-graduation in Engineering during my Army tenure. I did 3 command duties including responsibilities of disposing off live bombs during the peak insurgency in Kashmir Valley for Northern Command. My unit diffused/disposed of over 500 Live (as big as 1000 pounds & as small as IED in a soap case) during 2 years.
In 1996, I came to USA & started my Finance Company in 2000. We provide Real Estate & Loans, Residential & Commercial both to our clients.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle was the recession from 2007 onwards till 2011. There were huge losses in Real Estate & it really took a toll in my finances. Great challenge but struggled to keep the head high above the water.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Napa Finance Group – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We have Real Estate & Finance Services (Loans) for both Residential & Commercial needs of the clients. We also have access to private funds for ensuring that no deals fail.
Being an officer of Armed forces, I shoot straight, act with complete honesty & client’s interest always comes first. I have turned down many deals where I could make money but the client was not being benefitted enough.
What puts me apart is the motto we followed in the Army as below: which has become guide line for my biz-
“The safety, honour and welfare of your country come first, always and every time. The honour, welfare and comfort of the men you command come next. Third, your own ease, comfort and safety come last, always and every time.”
So following the above motto in my biz, the company honor/prestige/ethics comes first, clients interest & lastly comes my personal gain. Which is against the philosophies of most businessmen as their interest comes first.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The plans are to grow the business & serve the community. Also, train & induct more loan officers & Realtor in the team. I have also started an Insurance Agency where we can help client to get good insurance rates for their homes, vehicles & as well as life insurance products. In fact we are trying to make our group of companies as “One Stop Shop” for all the Financial/Real Estate needs of our clients.
Possibly after a few years we would like to start a bank for meeting our community needs. For which I am looking for a suitable partner.
As a Veteran, I am also founder Chairman of a non-profit organization called GIVE (Global Initiative of Veterans) in Los Angeles. We are connecting Veterans & Supporting civilians to raise money for the welfare of Veterans & their families in need.
We have adopted children for education in India & provide hot meals to homeless people in Los Angeles.
