Meet George Bosson of be*light in Dana Point

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Bosson.

George, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We all have “the right to light”.

I have been an executive in the Architectural Lighting Industry for the past 29 years. My journey has led me through some of the top lighting manufactures in the field.

I have had the honor of being mentored by two of the most highly regarded lighting design/product developers in the world, Sylvan R. Shemitz and Bill Lam, leading to the opportunity to develop my own architectural lighting product line.

The Lighting Design community (the equivalent of architects of lighting) are a very demanding group of professionals. I am grateful to know that the products that I developed are renown among Lighting Designers throughout North America.

Six years ago I became aware of an emerging concept in lighting; the effect of lighting on the health and wellbeing of people.

The application of light and in particular the Spectral Power Distribution (wavelengths of light like you see in a rainbow) of lighting fixtures can have a profound effect on us. Both good and not so good.

As a result of this personal discovery I immersed myself into the research, culminating in attending the Light for Health Program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Lighting Research Center.

There I became sure of the “Next Thing” in Lighting and the next thing in my career.

I have dedicated my work to lighting to improve people’s wellbeing ever since.

Has it been a smooth road?
There are a number of loves in my life, my wife, Rosemarie Allaire (an accomplished Residential Lighting Designer), my children, my friends and Winston our adopted little rascal dog.

Another was the company I founded called a.light.

A number of years ago the Board of Directors of the company pushed me out of the company.

I was devastated. My heart was broken.

Three days after the ouster I received a book in the mail from my daughter Joan Marie. The title is “You are Here” by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist Monk.

This beautiful monk taught me a “new lesson” about – breathing – being aware of myself – seeing the world through the lens of compassion and gratitude. I now have been able to forgive my partners in the business for their action and have gone on to dedicate my work to improving people’s life condition with light.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with be*light – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I started a new company named be*light and serve as an architectural lighting consultant, lecturer and life/career coach.

My consulting is directed to the development of lighting products designed around a concept I call Circadian Balanced Illumination.

My lecture, entitled “Light and Us”, explores our evolution under light, Biophilic Design and the WELL Building movement.

Light has a profound effect on our psycho-emotional and biological systems. The enlightened application of lighting improves the life condition of people in the built environment. We can make significantly positive changes in people’s life experience through light and bringing nature into our interior space.

My father once said “Son…whatever you choose to do in life…don’t just make a buck…Make a Difference”.

Through my vast experience in lighting I am now dedicated to making a difference in people’s lives with light.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the beautiful and diverse countryside and the ocean views. California is one of the best places on earth both in terms of its vast terrains and its economic and political climate.

What I like least is the traffic and the noise and pollution it produces.
