Hi Logan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started detailing cars in 2013, at the age of 16, on my first car, a 2010 VW CC. I loved that car. Then I expanded onto cars of friends, family, and neighbors, then the public by word of mouth. Then I took it to the internet, where I expanded my work zone onto the entire greater Los Angeles area, detailing cars on streets and driveways out of the back of my Ford Explorer. I learned by working alongside professionals to make sure I was learning the proper tools of the trade. I also hungered for knowledge of all the newest tools, tips, and tricks from the internet and learned a lot there over the years. I learned everything with my own hands and sweat. A couple of years ago I rented a shop in Sherman Oaks where I work to this day, and I haven’t looked back!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like running any business, it is never smooth in the beginning. If you’re looking for smooth or “easy,” then being a business owner-operator is probably not the best choice for you. It was my passion for the craft that allowed me to persevere when nobody believed in me. We work with cars and people–both of which can be very dynamic. Struggles include the learning curve to master your craft and providing as much value as you possibly can. Los Angeles is a competitive city for a lot of industries. At Logan’s Auto Detailing & Coating, we focus on providing value to the community and let word of mouth take care of the rest.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Logan’s Auto Detailing & Coating?
I specialize in Icon Rocklear installations, ceramic coatings, paint “color” correction, and interior/exterior auto detailing. I am the only installer of Icon Rocklear in LA County. My attention to detail goes above and beyond the rest. I am known for my ability to identify imperfections/contamination in automotive paintwork in nearly any light, as well as my 5-8-hour-long car/truck details. That’s how it all really started… Spending 5-8 hours on one vehicle, on location, alone, outside, on super hot days, deep cleaning and waxing clients’ cars and trucks, on an asphalt street. I later got into paint correction and ceramic coatings, and recently, Icon Rocklear installations. There are great natural/synthetic waxes and ceramic coating products out there that give your vehicle’s paintwork *some* protection, but if you own your vehicle and want to protect it from scratches and chips, you only have two options: Icon Rocklear or paint protection film (PPF). We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
As a small business owner, especially in the beginning, if you are not taking risks, it is likely the brand will not stand the test of time. I recently took on a large financial risk (relative to the size of the business) when I saw Icon Rocklear for myself. As a car enthusiast and auto detailer, I was frankly blown away by the coating’s ability to make cars look instantly brand new, and when fully cured, withstand physical mechanisms of injury and bounce back into shape with the use of just a heat gun. I paid for Icon Rocklear training, equipment, supplies, and a gallon of the product itself. All of this cost me many of thousands of dollars.
