Rising Stars: Meet Camille Cabrera of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Cabrera

Camille, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Camille Cabrera. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. The city shaped my understanding of the world by showing me a sprawling landscape filled with unique opportunities and memorable sights. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Los Angeles and traveled to Boston for my master’s degree. While in school, I became a bestselling author. The worthwhile whirlwind motivated me to hone my craft. It was only a matter of time before the warm weather and sunny beaches called me back home.

I fell in love with storytelling because it allowed me to see people for who they really were and not who they wanted to be. The same can be true for me. I learned more about myself through reading and writing. Literature encouraged me to become more introspective and self-aware. In a town filled with dazzling lights, it’s important to avoid becoming a moth to a neon flame.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
A smooth road is a boring road. Thankfully, my road winds, pitches, ascends, and backtracks, but ultimately continues forward. I recently experienced both professional and personal challenges that have made every victory so much richer. I’ve learned to adapt to the darkness created by unexpected hardships. The goal is no longer to reach for the light but to actively become it.

Authorship requires a balance between artistic vision and professional acumen. My creativity follows a winding and explorative path that competes against professional organization. The stories change as my life shifts. I’m not the same person I was six months ago or one year ago. Perspective facilitates a sharp double-edged sword, capable of extraordinary complications and rewards.

Hopefully the most complex, inconvenient road offers the best view.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an author of mystery novels. I fell into the career while contemplating law school. Law continues to fascinate me, but authorship motivates me to seek a deeper meaning. I’m most proud of the courage it took to start. While nerve-racking, publication has allowed me to share my stories with the world. I’m most known for my bestselling Cozy Christmas series. I enjoy crafting stories filled with romance and hope while discussing complex topics such as financial trouble and personal loss. Cozy mystery novels allow me to delve into both realms of the human experience.

Today, I’ve written over ten different novels and seven short stories. I love writing because it allows me to hold space for reality and fantasy. Over the years, I’ve discovered that reality is often stranger than fiction.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I’d love to expand my current collection of novels and short stories. The world is often dark, but that doesn’t mean I look away. I embrace it as I embrace the light. I want to honor both sides of the human experience as fully as possible. My work will continue to improve and reflect that goal.

In terms of industry changes, I see artificial intelligence (AI) becoming a contender within the industry. I recently spoke on a panel discussing the potential outcomes AI will have on creative fields. For now, I’ve come to the understanding that a soulful human-centered story requires a storyteller capable of living a fully human life. Art is to be created, pondered, and appreciated by people. Stories allow us to connect on a universal level transcending our often insulated self-invested perspectives.
