June, thanks for joining us again. We’re so excited to have a services focused conversation today. Can you bring our readers up to speed on the service-offering side?
1. Pilates On Robertson opened in April 2016. Originally, I taught Pilates and GYROTONIC® in a small one room studio in Culver City. Now we are a fully equipped studio with two reformer combination machines, a Cadillac, Wunda chair, 2 GYROTONIC® towers and three specialized GYROTONIC® equipment pieces. We are a concierge boutique studio offering privates and semi-privates. Our mission is providing high quality specialized movement training for all types of clients. Currently, we have experience working with osteoporosis, scoliosis, rheumatoid arthritis, pre/post natal care, hip-knee-ankle injuries, frozen shoulder syndrome and more. We also help athletes improve their performance in tennis, pickle ball, skiing, trekking, baseball, and golf.

I love movement. Being active has brought so much enjoyment in life. Pilates supports all the activities I love, such as ballet, hiking, and snowshoeing. I hope that everyone can experience the benefits of Pilates and GYROTONIC®. Pilates was one of the best ways for me to rehabilitate from injuries sustained in life’s little falls and spills. Pilates helped me learn so much about how to move efficiently with healthy biomechanical patterns. It’s amazing to see clients progress. They begin to move freely and confidently which translates to living a full life.

Can you walk us through the onboarding process for a new client?
Most clients contact us via email or phone. We try to respond quickly and discuss goals, scheduling needs and current physical level. Then we set an appointment to get the program going. Jumping in and experiencing the movement is the best way to start. The first session includes assessment and sampling basic Pilates and/or GYROTONIC exercises. Most people get hooked and set up a regular standing appointment. This commitment facilitates progress and success.

How do most people hear about your services?
The foundation of our marketing rests on providing excellent service. From there, I have developed an on-line presence so that clients can find us through Google and Yelp. Lately I’ve been experimenting and working with a social media specialist to build a following on Instagram. In addition, I have a small, trusted network of wellness professionals who refer clients. Then there’s the old-fashioned, tried and true, word of mouth which has been very instrumental in bringing in motivated students.

Do you have any advice for folks who are just starting out?
Find a place where you feel comfortable, and the studio demonstrates they are vested in your learning experience and progress. The teachers should be involved in continuing education on a regular basis to hone and expand their skill sets. It’s not necessarily about doing fancy choreography or super model aesthetics. It should be about understanding the mind-body connection and having a team mentality for progress and fun!
