Today we’d like to introduce you to Iris Svis
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a film/television producer, writer, and director. Born in Russia, my parents introduced me to the world of art through dance and music education. At the age of fourteen, I began traveling the world which exposed me to the diversity and richness of many beautiful cultures and languages. I even became an interpreter to help continue my travels and exploration of humanity. However, once I realized that I love art and storytelling, I soon understood that my purpose was in developing my craft to create unique narratives that portray the universal thread shared by all cultures.
So now I produce short films, web series, and have a few features in development. Currently, I am working as a producer on a limited series with the current title “CLOSE YOUR EYES AND GO TO SLEEP”. By constantly challenging myself to create through collaboration, I believe in making art that will make a difference in the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth it was not. I like things to be fresh and new, with each project being different and so exciting at the same time. Our latest project, “A SENSE OF DREAD” was quite a ride. On the day of filming, we were still setting up the set and it was very hot outside, but the bunkers we were filming in were even hotter. We went ahead and shot it anyway and the whole time I was frantic thinking, “Are we going to complete it?!” In the end, it all worked out for the best; you just never know until you do it and then you roll with the punches and hope for the best. What always excites me is that, despite all the complications and inconveniences, moviemaking has this magical way of manifesting something beautiful from chaos.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been an actress and a producer for over 10 years now. When it comes to bringing the right people on board for each specific project, that’s where I come in. It’s all about the right fit, managing personalities, styles, and skills. Early on, I identify what a project needs and cater to its specific needs. Is it action? Are we showcasing lots of prosthetics, etc.? At the end of the day, the work of the team is a reflection of my work, so I have to value each and every person I work with and make sure they have everything they need to do their best work. Like right now, I am very thrilled to be pairing up with one of my favorite creators, Nicholas D. Monteilh (@ndmonteilh), and we are cooking up something special – an untitled miniseries evolving around beautiful and strong female bounty hunters! Stay tuned ;)…
What matters most to you?
Bringing raw and beautiful emotions to the world through the camera lens. No matter how big or small the project is, it’s all about showing your passion to the world and elevating people’s dreams. Another huge passion of mine is supporting animals in need, so I am currently involved with Stray Cat Alliance. Big shout out to all the staff and volunteers who work there – they are the real heroes and animal advocates.
