Meet Janet Webb of Greenwich Floral in Conejo Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Webb.

Janet, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I had the luxury of starting a business without financial pressure. I have always loved arranging flowers and after taking some classes and interning on the weekends for a very talented florist I decided to retire from my job as a school administrator and turn my garage into a flower shop. My three children had recently finished college and were employed so the timing was good. Eight years later my business has consistently grown and I am still excited for my 4 AM trips to the LA downtown flower market to guarantee securing the seasons finest and hopefully discover a new pod I have never seen. I love having a history with many of my customers that connects us in many of the important moments of their lives… birthdays, weddings, showers, new babies, anniversaries, and sympathy.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has been an exciting journey. The hardest thing for me has been the sometimes intense timing. When I have a weekend with several weddings the earliest I can purchase flowers is Wednesday and I like to have everything in the coolers ready for delivery the day before. I have learned to be super organized.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Greenwich Floral – what should we know?
I have stayed involved in all aspects of my business. I am lucky to have some great employees that make my shop seem like a family business. It is very important to me to develop a relationship with my customers and I do all my consults for events. I can’t let go of selecting my flowers. Many florists have their flowers shipped or buy from a truck that comes to their shop but I have a great relationship with my vendors at the market and I take advantage of living in driving distance to an amazing market. I am very proud of delivering a unique arrangement with premium florals. I feel like many floral services have disappointed the floral customer and it is a pleasure to please them.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My husband recently retired as an oral surgeon. He has been my biggest fan and now helps in many aspects of my business. We live in a community where we have raised kids, taught kids, and seen patients and frequently we deliver flowers to a customer from our former professions and feel so connected to our community. Word of mouth has been so kind to Greenwich Floral.
