Today we’d like to introduce you to Val Tan.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always been interested in film, it was the one form of art that completely captivated me. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what happened to get me to where I am today. But I couldn’t be happier with the path I have chosen.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Figuring who I was an artist. Trying not to be someone else just because I admired a specific writer or director. I think staying true to yourself can be one of the hardest things an artist has to learn to do. Because when you put a mirror up against yourself, who can truly say they love everything they see.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a filmmaker! I am a writer/director based in LA and Singapore. The stories I love to tell are those surrounding the culture I grew up with. I enjoy making personal and intimate moments into ones that are relatable and pull at the heart strings.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
