Rising Stars: Meet Stephanie Reyes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Reyes.

Hi Stephanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story starts a little late compared to the next industry dancer. I am from a small town known as Visalia, California where hardly any opportunities lie for an aspiring dancer. My passion for dance started in my senior year of high school and from there grew to me traveling consistently 3 hours to Los Ángeles just to dance.

Although these trips did take a toll on me both physically and financially, they were always worth it for my growth and for my passion. I believe my drive to grow as a dancer has definitely led me to where I am today. My journey guided me to befriend and create genuine relationships with talented individuals who share their passion and for that, I am forever grateful. With their support and my drive for growth, it led me to experience proud moments including sharing the stage with ASAP ROCKY at Rolling Loud 2019, multiple music videos, and live performances. Today, I am proudly teaching at Bakersfield’s very own PENNPOINT DANCE ACADEMY, as well as sharing my craft in Visalia, CA. With the help of fellow community dancers and teachers, I have grown to be confident in my dance journey and continue pursuing my dream.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, but a road with obstacles including distance, insecurities, and doubts. As much as I loved dance, in the beginning, it had always been my second priority. Second to my full-time job and relationships due to doubts. Doubts in which made me believe I had and could not have a future with dance in the picture. Although I still found myself traveling to train as a dancer from what little time I did have maintaining my full-time management position, it was never my #1 focus. I spent years of not fully committing to my passion and losing confidence in myself. Gratefully, that is not where I allowed myself to stay both mentally and physically. My journey led me to meet inspiring others who showed me the many opportunities one has to create their dream. One must only reach for it, strive for it, believe in it. Once my confidence and passion grew, I found myself letting go of what I thought I could never do. I let go of doubt, and I quit my full-time job. I turned away from what was keeping me to pursue my passion because I finally, full-heartedly, believed in myself. To this day, that decision was a turning point for the better in my life. I am now giving all my time and attention to my passion which brings me joy, inspiration, and confidence.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

What are your plans for the future?
I am always setting new goals for myself! At the moment, I am focused on my creative journey as a teacher/choreographer and I am very excited to what opportunities my passion can lead me towards. I am a firm believer of “what is meant for you will always be for you” no matter the time or hardships one can encounter.
