Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonny Stojanovic.
Hi Sonny, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started making music about ten years ago in Australia. Now I’m a recording artist, music producer and songwriter living in Los Angeles.
I used to build houses in Australia as I’m a licensed builder and carpenter but always wanted to make music my career. It took me years before getting the visas I needed in order to move here and work freely so I just kept working on my craft and saving in the meantime. I used to play all my new songs at work for everyone on the job site and get their feedback. Everyone was always supportive so that helped push me to keep going.
When the time came, I sold my house, cars and everything I owned so I could make this move. I never hesitated for I wanted.
When I got to LA, I started recording and engineering for other artists to make extra cash so I could book more studio time for myself. I met a lot of people this way and ended up working with some big producers and artists, who are now some close friends of mine.
I have an abundance of creativity living in LA and love what I’m doing. The aim is to top the billboard charts which I’m still working on and a number one song is inevitable in mind!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The hardest part has been moving countries. So many rules that have nothing to do with my career but are important to follow so I can stay long-term in America and thrive in the music industry. I moved by myself and started a whole new life that I wanted but had to leave a lot behind too. That was definitely hard.
Meeting people and making friends was tough but I’ve found some incredible people who are now my friends forever.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a recording artist (rapper) but also produce music and song write for others too.
I’m known for having unique and captivating Melodie’s in my music and can get a mix sounding amazing.
My Australian accent adds some flare to my rap which makes it exciting and new to listen too.
I’m most proud of the music I have been making lately. Working with multiple platinum producers BL$$D (producer for Young Thug, Future, Meg The Stallion) we have a new project coming out soon called Hang10Sonny.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe in making calculated risks.
I took a big risk by leaving my building company behind and selling everything I had to move for music. If you can see the path and believe you can do it, you have to go for it. Think before you jump tho, don’t just jump.
Being an artist, you have to take risks and experiment with new ideas and sounds all the time so being out of my comfort zone is fine for me.
I thrive in the unknown and taking a risk to change your life is well worth it.
