Today we’d like to introduce you to Sia Irilian.
Sia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My background was previously with the Aerospace Industry. I worked for Aero Engineering and Frazier Aviation whom both are Lockheed Martin licensees. Both companies are very strong in what they do and have a very supportive and focused environment. In 2016, I unfortunately had to step away as I was committing to stay at home to take care of our newborn – Jocelyn. My wife, Mary, is a teacher at William S Hart High School where she teaches Health. Aside from that, she’s going into her 16th Season as the Head Girls Volleyball Coach. After raising Jocelyn till she was about one year old, I connected with a colleague of mine whom introduced me to National Sports Apparel in Orange, CA. They are an Adidas focused based business and this is where I began my sports apparel and equipment sales journey. I worked for them from 2017-2019 until I took a Sales Professional opportunity with my current employer BSN Sports.
Since having come aboard with BSN in August of ’19, it has been wonderful. There are a multitude of resources at our fingertips as well as a HUGE support system to help both our clients and the Sales staff. It truly has been great. Plus on top of that, my schedule allows me to still be connected into my hometown of Santa Clarita where I am able to assistant coach for my wife within her girls volleyball program. In the evenings and weekends, I dedicate my time to coaching club volleyball with the Los Angeles Volleyball Academy (LAVA North in Santa Clarita).
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With new clients, the trouble that can occur is helping to bring their vision to life. If for example a client does not have a definitive view of where they want to end up; it is our responsibility to help guide them as best possible to where they want to be! Of course, it definitely helps if a client has their existing files or notes to provide. If that is not the case, we have a team of artists in house or a 3rd party partner that can manufacture their vision as well as having a database of over 500 preset art designs for them to choose from. Other than that – everything is very user-friendly and it has definitely been a very fun and busy ride!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Within BSN Sports – I am on the best team there is – Team Coopman! With the support of all of our specialists back in Dallas, TX, our awesome team members and our West Coast Vice President, Mr. Sinz, its been the best!
Aside from our great work team, as stated before – I am heavily involved in coaching club girls volleyball. I have been involved in club volleyball since I was 10 years old. I started playing with a few clubs through out the years; Synergy, SC Elite and Santa Monica Beach Club. In 2009 I started coaching High School and Club Volleyball. This upcoming fall season will be my 12th season for high school and 11th season for club. I have been coaching at LAVA (Los Angeles Volleyball Academy) ever since. As of a few years ago I have been coaching the 14 and Under & 15 and Under divisions primarily. (Having had experience coaching 13’s, 16’s and 17’s age groups as well.)
I’m most proud of seeing things through, start to finish no matter how difficult or tedious something may be. No matter how difficult a conversation may be to have, no matter the outcoming; positive or negative. To coach our players to be ready to tackle anything they face both on and off the court. Life isn’t always sunshine’s and rainbows, but helping our youth navigate those experiences and preparing them for their future is really what it is all about.
What matters most to you? Why?
My family is what matters to me the most. Without my wife, daughter and continued support of my family, my extended family and close group of friends; I wouldn’t be at all where am today as a person without them.
A special thanks as well goes out to all of my clients. Without the communication and relationships that have built with them throughout the years, my career definitely wouldn’t be where it is today! (Special shout out to Jim Klipfel and Krista Botton for the connection with VoyageLA!)
