Rising Stars: Meet Shanay Morant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanay Morant.

Hi Shanay, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m a Multitalented Artist from New York City! I started my journey in the Performing Arts in high school when I attended Talent Unlimited High School for the Performing Arts! There I studied Musical Theatre for four years! I then got accepted into the American Musical Dramatic Academy and studied musical theatre there for two years to later receive my associate’s degree in Musical Theatre Studies! Since graduating, I’ve appeared in several short films and a very popular web series named Mixed Boy Joy. I am now developing my sound musically as an artist and people are loving my RnB Neo-Soul vibes! Just scratching the surface with the music I’ve released so far so definitely be on the lookout for what’s coming next. I am not the type of artist to keep in a box!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve learned to accept that my journey will never be smooth! But that may be one of my greatest strengths! Because I’ve built something that can’t be broken! No matter how great the storm is, I will always come out on the other side greater!

One of the most recent struggles has to do with choosing my peace over opportunities! Living in LA, it’s so hard to get caught up in the possibilities of what an opportunity could do to your career! So you do whatever it takes to not only secure that opportunity but then to keep it! And sometimes, you lose yourself while holding on to that opportunity because you’re so focused on the uncertain possibilities that could potentially come from it! There’s people that have all the success, money, and connections in the world and still commit suicide. Why? Because they don’t have peace! That’s the opportunity worth fighting for. PEACE!!!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Music has taken my focus over the past two years and in that time, I’ve built a very solid foundation for myself musically! I’m very grounded in my artistry and I’m continuously building! Now there’s an expectation of greatness when I step into the booth! I’m unique because I’m not chasing trends or vibes! I am the trend! And I am the vibe! So whatever I create, people will love because I’m great! It doesn’t have to fit in with the masses and it might not ever! That’s probably what I’m most proud of!

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t be afraid to fail or struggle. Don’t be afraid to be yourself even if it means you have to walk alone. The peace you will have from choosing yourself will be unexplainably amazing. Any opportunity no matter how great is not worth losing yourself over! Your time will come if you stay the course! If you just want to get there find the fastest way to do so, but if you want to stay there do the work and your opportunities will find you!

  • My show tickets usually vary from $10-20
