Today we’d like to introduce you to Sammii Sun.
Hi Sammii, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am the Fashion Director at the Ivan Bitton Style House showroom in Hollywood, CA. A big part of my journey are God and my mentors, whom I cherish. These people are not just mentors, these are my friends as well, family, and my soul tribe. I first started my creative journey at the age of 6 with drawing and painting. From that my creativity sprouted in all different ways. I am from the Inland Empire. I moved to Los Angeles to UCLA to study to be an attorney; although I did feel in my heart that the arts kept calling me. I started my career as a volunteer and intern. Any Job I could find I would jump at the opportunity to be able to learn. Ever since I was young I had this grand vision of my life; so although after college it was hard to work full time, volunteer casting, and help designers I kept telling myself that this is all I want to do. After a few years working as a casting assistant I moved up as a casting director at United Casting Agency and a producers assistant; as well as working with Ivan. While casting and PA’ing I have had the chance to be able to work with artists such as Lil Wayne, The Migos, Lil Wayne, A$AP Rocky, Rihanna, Dreamdoll, Pusha T, and more.
Throughout my journey in casting and fashion is crazy to think about to be honest. Although the journey on the path to my full womanhood is an ever-winding road, I have solace in knowing that I have great people who support me every day and encourage my growth. I am truly blessed and honored to be involved in all the projects I’ve assisted in. After I gained experience as an interning in casting for a few years I applied to United Casting Agency. Through there I met my mentor Hadi. His passion for God, and his journey through the film industry was aspiring to me. From then on, working with both shifted my work ethic. Through more experience, I was able to assist, produce in the office and on sets on projects for music videos, commercials and more. Furthermore, I worked in production, casting, social media, in the office and styling simultaneously on the projects I would work in.
My first mentor in Fashion, Romeo Foxx introduced me to my now partner; Fashion Activist, Ivan Bitton; CEO and owner of world-renowned Ivan Bitton Style House in Hollywood, CA. When Ivan and I met, we meshed like the perfect thread and needle instantly; as he is such a sweet and caring soul. I first met Romeo at LAFW as a volunteer. I was luckily chosen to assist the designers backstage dressing the models for the runway. I would then meet Romeo every week to teach me everything he knew about the fashion world. I had the honor of interning, coordinating and styling for Ivan before officially working for him as The Fashion Director at the Ivan Bitton Style House. I had the honor of styling for events such as the Grammy’s, American Song Contest, Oscars, and Cannes Film Festival, Vogue. I have also had the pleasure of styling celebrities such as Megan The Stallion, Cardi B, and more.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has definitely not been an obstacle free. Some struggles I had along the way were multiple family members passing away, financial hardships and health issues. Although, God, my mentors, as well as my family and the thought of being able to take care of them has always been my anchor to get through any hardships.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am most proud of how I have grown. I am currently focusing on being the best Fashion Director I can be. I genuinely love what I do. I only wish to be the best me i can be for God, my family and I. God has been leading me in the right direction my whole life without me always knowing it, so I just trust in him to lead me wherever it is I’m meant to be. As an artist, myself, seeing and working with other artists is the best feeling in the world. The art I get to see, no matter the medium, coming from all walks of life is ethereal. I get the chance to communicate with potential clients from all over the world for them to be able to have their pieces hosted in the Ivan’s Bitton Style House’ showroom. Similar with casting, I got to have the ability to show more of the world’s different art or beauty, whether if it comes from the beauty of the model of the beautiful piece I styled them in. What sets me apart is my passion. I hope to continue to gain more experience in the lndustry and expand my artistry.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Always live your life like it’s your last day and show love to the people you love every day while you can, time is never promised.
