Hi Precious, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Went to school for creative performing arts for nine years. Trained at Cincinnati ballet during the year and attended summer intensives in the summer. After high school, trained with ballet Austin company then moved to LA, got an agent DDO at the time started working professionally as a commercial dancer. Favorite jobs were working with Kanye West, Glee as a cheerio, and my national Toyota spot. Today still dancing and now I have a three years old daughter.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as relatively smooth road?
This journey has not been smooth sailing. I came out to la with my Mom because of her job, but her job transferred her back home and I was home for four months moved back and went to Amda because I needed something in la to stay living here. Then I had a moment where I didn’t know who I was as a dancer because I injured my back my senior year in high school and it got worse in Texas so that’s why I left early at ballet Austin. So when I got to LA, I was lost. There wasn’t a lane for ballerinas commercially and there wasn’t any ballet companies in Los Angeles at the time. Another struggle was finding out I was pregnant at five months and had no idea! I was working and everything. When I found out I went to because my family thought it was best. That was extremely hard. I moved back when my baby was three months and I remember reaching out to My agent asking if I should come back and she said yes because now is the time I’m not getting any younger and there are dancers who are parents and make it happen. So I listened and came back with no home just my Car and connections. that was hard.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional dancer/ model. I specialize in ballet. I’m known for my Skiinnyminnieproject I created which is my handle name on Instagram. But I sell my artwork and mentor back home in Ohio so It turned into a brand for Me:) I am proud of how I came back from being pregnant and how I struggled but always believed in myself so I knew if I dedicated everything to my craft, I would book and work and that’s what happened. I booked three national spots within six months and started background dancing with artist Alina Baraz which was a dream come true to Be a background dancer. I feel what set me apart is I am a ballerina and I wasn’t afraid to really try other avenues of dancing besides concert work and I am successful too in other styles.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I was lucky to have worked on this commercial as a big talent because they seen I was a real ballerina and they bumped me up and I was able to get with the number one dance agent in Los Angeles, bloc talent agency. Which really changed my life
