Rising Stars: Meet Pamela Hensley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Hensley.

Hi Pamela, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My interest in makeup began when I saw Boy George from Culture Club in the music video “Karma Chameleon”. The colors were amazing and he looked gorgeous – I immediately wanted to learn how to do that! Makeup became an extension of my creativity and love of art. Skipping ahead many years later, I again took a few makeup courses and started doing makeup for my hula sisters for dance performances on stage and for friends celebrating special events. I was soon asked to do makeup for a wedding and that’s where my love for bridal makeup and bridal hair styling began. That has been my specialization ever since and I truly love it!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There have been many moments when I have asked myself why am I doing this??? – Los Angeles has so many talented makeup and hair artists that it can be a hard market to break through. I try to stand out by giving my clients the best customer service I can offer and I remain available to them 24/7 via text or call if they have questions or concerns.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a bridal makeup and hair artist. I specialize in a makeup look I like to call “natural glam”. It’s a look where a client’s features are enhanced, accentuated and highlighted without looking artificial. For my bridal hair looks, I am most often asked to do soft, romantic updo or half-up styles which I love for weddings.

I am most proud that I have been able to follow a passion, moving past the bumps in the road and believing in myself enough that I was able to create something out of nothing.

On each bride’s wedding day, I will be the first vendor they see so I feel responsible for setting the tone of their day. I always try and bring good vibes and positive energy to get the day started.

How do you think about happiness?
So many things! First off are my two kids – they are such good humans and I am thankful that they are thriving and doing well in life. Isn’t that all a mom could ask for?

A clean house makes me happy (hahaha), Sunday mornings, being outside after it rains, when I have a good hair day, seeing and visiting my friends – simple pleasures!
