Rising Stars: Meet Not Your Boyfriend Productions, Alison Fox & Remo Rivero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Not Your Boyfriend Productions Alison Fox & Remo Rivero.

Alison Fox is a Billboard charted recording artist, actor and producer who has studied Acting & Filmmaking in Miami, New York & Los Angeles. Remo Rivero is a Marine Corps Veteran, director and producer. He studied Marketing and Acting for Film in New York City and Los Angeles. We met in 2017 in acting school in New York City. We both traveled to Los Angeles in 2018 to continue our studies and later became roommates in 2019. When the Covid 19 Pandemic initially hit, there was a huge loss of work for artists and creators. Being left out of work, the desire to create and not knowing when studios would open up again, we decided to take matters into our own hands and produced our first film titled, “Fear”. Our own ideas created a potential platform for opportunity for ourselves and we wanted to extend the same opportunities to fellow artists and musicians. Together, we started our own production company, Not Your Boyfriend Productions, offering Film Making, Music Videos, Event Videography, reels for actors using state of the art Cinema Cameras as well as Studio Photography and headshots.

At a time where income was a major issue and many were left out of work in America, we were able to provide fair and affordable prices. There is a place where you can go to and turn anything into a movie without breaking the bank, and that’s Not Your Boyfriend Productions. We were offered to shoot a wedding video in Colorado and that opened the doors for Event Videography. Since our first wedding shoot, we have booked more weddings, gender reveals, baby showers, maternity shoots and countless photoshoots. The wedding helped us realize the unspoken desire by all people to have their own personal movies. Whether it is recording a day at the beach, a gender reveal, or a surprise birthday, all of that can be made into movies. NYB Productions offers that to the world. Anyone is welcomed and no idea is ever a bad one.

We created a platform accessible to artists, creators, anyone that has the interest or desire to create by providing state of the art equipment, professional instruction and most importantly, people who believe in the visions of others. This is an inclusive company. At NYB Productions beginners and experts are all welcomed and all treated with the same respect they would give to their own idols.

While we do offer many services to the public, we intend to share stories with our supporters and the world through the art of filmmaking. We hope to inspire people to create and to celebrate their own unique creativity.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Given the circumstances of the world today, it took us some time to adjust to the rapid changes of Covid-19. We had to learn how to live again in many ways. Especially in the Arts and Entertainment industry. While everything was locked down, we were given time to think and reassess about the future of our lives. We used that time to build new habits and motivations. We had time to think about why we even started in this path of the arts and how important it was for us to continue despite the doubt and fear circulating throughout the world. It really was a wakeup call that eventually evolved into motivation. It helped us think in new ways, such as recreating ourselves, creating something that will last through the tough times. As far as the business, it has been a fairly smooth road for NYB Productions, for the most part. We feel extremely lucky and grateful. Before launching the company in June of 2020, utilizing the lessons from the beginning of the year and our past experiences in the arts, we expected there to be plenty of challenges and bumps on the road and prepared ourselves for the “bad times.” We expected weather issues, equipment failure, canceled shoots, location, etc. Going in with that mindset, when the time came for challenges, we took them on with positive attitudes and gave ourselves the time needed to learn and adjust. We have also been so lucky to work with other artists and clients who wholeheartedly believe in their own work and peers. Together we create an environment where ideas thrive.

Taking our time with the process is the best decision we made moving forward. We learned to not take on so many projects at a given time in order to get the most out of every single project. Patience is key.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Not Your Boyfriend Productions offers Film Making, Music Videos, Event Videography, Reels for actors using state of the art Cinema Cameras, as well as Studio Photography and headshots. Our services include everything from directing, production, editing, writing, casting, logistics and equipment, to short ads, commercials, youtube video and sound production, social media, and much more.

We have helped produce an online bartending course and support small businesses gain exposure through top-quality content. Our services have been booked for Event Videography such as weddings, gender reveals parties, baby showers, and a variety of photoshoots. Our photoshoots range from maternity to character headshots. We appreciate working with new ideas and give our clients freedom of creativity during the projects.

Whatever the idea, whatever the vision, NYB Productions can turn it into a movie or photograph. That is what we do and we do not set limits on any idea. We help make ideas come to life and the way we operate as a company is motivating and inspiring for those involved.

As a production company, not only do we intend to provide an environment for artists and creators alike to flourishes, but we are focused on creating and telling deeply rooted stories, stories that can help guide today’s generations and generations to come with the much harsher aspects of life. We want to use the experiences of our collective pasts to serve as lessons through filmmaking and music. We agree with Baz Luhrman on his opinion on music being its own character in film. We believe music to play a therapeutic and a powerful role in the storytelling process. This has lead us to work with amazing sound engineers, composers and producers to create original film scores and soundtracks.

We take pride in how we interact, treat and work with our clients. If there’s one thing we’re known for besides the depth and style of our content, it is our relationship with our clients and partners. There is not a single shoot where everyone involved did not feel empowered or experienced a level of fun not offered elsewhere. Once we start a project, we come out at the end that much better and motivated in our abilities. The environment we create with and for our clients is an environment meant for growth and perseverance. We solve problems. We make it happen.

What does success mean to you?
Never giving up. Perceiving every moment as a learning opportunity. It breads success.

Besides our own personal challenges as artists and creators before the Covid-19 pandemic, we faced a hard decision in our lives once the first covid outbreak took place in America. Either we continue to wait for the world to offer us reasons and opportunities or we create our own. At a time where there was a record high unemployment rate, there were many times when we thought we had to accept the reality of the times… We felt the pressure to set aside our dreams and goals for more “realistic” ones. A career change felt inevitable. But, we did not start on this journey to give up so easily. As times got worse, we felt a bigger reason as why we had to succeed. One day everything is great and alive, the next it’s all gone. We did not want that to be the start and end of our artistic careers.

We believe that if you hang on to your goals, no matter the size, with persistence, consistency and self-belief, success is one of the many fruits they bear.
