Rising Stars: Meet Miranda Parkin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Parkin.

Hi Miranda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started as a weird but outgoing choir student with art as a hobby, drawing as much as I could in between sight reading sheet music. Choir turned to voiceover (which my dad helped me get into, seeing as we already did funny voices around the house and I would mimic every accent I heard on the tv) and art turned to art classes in high school. I was so into animation that I took two semesters of animation classes at Santa Monica College concurrently while I was in high school. Now I animate and draw for various clients including famous voice actors and actors while working on an animated pilot of my own! I am also a main character in the upcoming Square Enix game, NEO: The World Ends With You. I’m always excited for my next project whether it be voiceover, art, or both!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has DEFINITELY not been a smooth road. Usually, I don’t like to talk about what I’ve been through, and I won’t go into detail, but I’ve been admitted to a mental hospital for being suicidal and I still take antidepressants. I’ve been in therapy since I was eight. I think having my parents divorced when I was three introduced a lot of inconsistencies in my life, which led to my trust issues and constant anxiety, but I’ve been coping with art and doing my best to make it through life without going through that again.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do any kind of art people ask me to do, but my favorite kind of art to do is character design. I’ve helped many a client design characters for their pilots and projects! It’s always refreshing for me to make a new face that’s never been drawn before and build on it to make it more relatable or scary or whatever my goal is. I think the things I’m most proud of are my animations because they take the most time and I’m always relieved when I finish one, even if it’s a couple of seconds long. My style is pretty unique. Something that I can do well is adapt to styles. So essentially, I can just learn how to draw in the style someone wants as soon as I have an example.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Not a lot of people know me for my voice acting, but I am a professional voice actor! I’ve had clients from McDonald’s to Netflix to Spotify to Sony, which I always fangirl over cos I love sharing my voice! I dub and do ADR as well. Like I said, I’m a main character in a new game (NEO: The World Ends With You) coming out in July, so I think a lot more people now know about me as a VA, and I’m hoping I’ll get that next job so I can continue to do silly voices in my room by myself!
