Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Swift.
Hi Melissa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Since a young age, I always knew I was different. I used to hate the fact I never really fit in anywhere. However, at 30 years old, I am grateful I was never able to fit in. I realize I was created to stand out from the crowd. I was always so sensitive, very loving, and caring. I always loved to help people, and I know helping others was what I was called to do.
There was a period in my life where I found myself battling numerous storms I did not understand. During that time, I remember praying and crying out to God for strength. At that particular time, I had just called off an engagement, had many financial difficulties, had utilized disconnected, battled infertility, walked away from a toxic job, faced a car repossession and eviction.
The darkness during this time was unbearable, and I wanted to give up. I remember I used to joke with people and tell them “I feel like Job”. If you do not know the story of Job, know that God allowed the enemy to test Job. God literally gave the devil the permission to test him. Job literally loses everything but his life. In the end, Job remained a faithful servant. God rewarded Job double for his trouble. Job did not like what he had to go through, and there were times where he would moan or groan. However, Job remained faithful.
While in the difficult season of my life, I felt I lose everything. I felt all I had left was my life. There were times when I found myself moaning and groaning, but I remained faithful to God. In the end, Melissa was rewarded double for the trouble. SHE Walked! SHE Survived! SHE Conquered! God did hear my prayers and the cry out for strength. Though, God did not give me strength the way that I thought He would. God tested me, and with those tests came strength.
The most difficult season of my life is what birthed SHE Walks LLC.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The story behind my life and the birthing of SHE Walks LLC. has been everything but smooth. I battled the anxiety, I battled the depression, I battled the heartbreak, I battled feeling less than, but I defeated those giants. I did not allow those distractions to stop what God had already spoken over my life.
I want other women and teen girls to know life will continue to happen but don’t give up. I’ve learned that finding freedom does not mean obstacles won’t come about. Though, when you are free, the change agent is the way you respond to obstacles when they develop. You are equipped with every tool you need for battle. Who knows! Maybe all you need is something as simple as a sling shot and a rock to defeat that very thing (giant) that hinders you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a University of Southern California Alumni. I currently work full-time as an Addiction Therapist and Founder/CEO of SHE Walks LLC. SHE Walks LLC offers virtual transformation coaching for women and teenage girls. SHE Walks LLC offers assistance associated with clothing, hygiene products, food assistance, and caring for the homeless population. The outpour of support SHE Walks LLC has received over the past year has been beyond far more than I ever could imagine.
I am most proud of the purpose behind SHE Walks LLC. SHE Walks LLC was created to coach women in the area of walking in and with purpose while lacking fear. SHE Walks LLC foundation is based upon Biblical Scripture. In fact, SHE Walks LLC is rooted in the Book of John 5:5-9. The Book of John chapter five verses five throughout nine discusses the healing pool, better known as the Pool of Bethesda.
One crucial notion to understand when it comes to John 5:5-9 and the Pool of Bethesda, not all disabilities are physical. There are a number of women who have disabilities that are mental and emotional. As a result of these disabilities, a lot of women have become paralyzed. By paralyzed, I am referring to mental and emotional bondage. As a result of mental and emotional bondage, many women find themselves in a place where they lose hope and are no longer able to thrive. Ultimately, what would have just been a dark season turns into cycles. I am here to tell you everything the enemy has spoken to you is a lie.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The most significant risk I have had to take was simply moving out of my own way. For so long, I blocked my own blessings because I struggled with taking my hands off of my life. I wanted to do things Melissa’s way. When I surrendered the control, my life changed forever.
