Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Durrant.
Hi Marc, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA but have worked and lived in Los Angeles since I acquired my BFA in Illustration from Syracuse University in the 90’s. I originally moved here to work on movies, but tattooing became my life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, I really didn’t start earning a liveable wage until the last decade. I was just freelancing artwork and had a long apprenticeship for tattooing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most known for my graphic retro focused style. I have made a name for myself in the tattoo community by being the first tattoo artist to focus strictly on pop culture art and creating a unique style of nostalgic tattoo designs called “gameframes” focusing mostly on retro video games from the 80’s and 90’s.
How do you think about luck?
Good luck is just knowing where to be at the right time. Bad luck is getting out of the wrong place at the wrong time!
