Today we’d like to introduce you to Laina Pruitt.
Hi Laina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Charcuterie boards have always been in my life. My mom was called the chairwoman of cheese, deemed by our neighborhood friends, and was creating beautiful “Grazing Boards” before it was cool. Growing up, I would always help her create boards for every social gathering, neighborhood block party, holidays, etc. So of course, I picked up the tradition with my girlfriends and would love to create elaborate boards for all of our girl’s nights! One night I wanted to challenge myself to create a grazing table. It by far is nothing close to the ones we do now, but we posted it on social media and it created a VERY talked about post including endless likes and comments of people asking if I can come do one for them. From there, I knew I could create a business doing something I love and that makes other people happy. We got busy, and a few months later, then Covid hit. Thankfully, we were not out of business and in fact we really started to gain momentum so I took a voluntary furlough from my flight attendant job which I am still on. Will I go back? Not sure. I’m in love with Grazing Kitchen and our customers. Currently, we are steadily busy and my vision of what I wanted our company to look like a year ago is coming to fruition. It’s truly a dream.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be honest, yes it’s been a smooth road. We had an absolute amazing first year. The highs of our first year weigh out any struggles we had. Struggles being, learning the back end of how to run a business, it’s not easy. Making Grazing Kitchen a business that people can easily understand and conveniently order took a lot of time and busy work. We although, were so lucky because we have an amazing community around us that were lifting us up and so many small businesses that were guiding us and providing us resources to succeed. We are SO thankful for our local community, friends, and of course family.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We provide thoughtfully curated Charcuterie Grazing Boxes, Boards, and Tables in Orange County and the surrounding areas. We focus on using high-quality ingredients while also curating ascetically pleasing works of food art. We absolutely love all of our products and enjoy constantly challenging ourselves to make the next board, box, or table the most beautiful one we’ve done yet. I wouldn’t consider myself an artist but I do have a knack for creating food to be pleasing to the eye. I love the WOW factor when delivering a board to a customer. I want them to have feelings of whimsical, joy and want them to be excited to show off their board to their family and friends. Knowing that our products can be a center point of conversation that brings family and friends together to sit down and chat gives us all the feels. I believe a big part of our success would be our dedication to our customers and their satisfaction with our product. Collectively my partner and I have over 15 years of experience in the restaurant industry and it creates so much joy for us to serve our community and customers. I really do feel like people can see and feel our passion that we have for Grazing Kitchen which I think makes us feel connected to our customers and the push to keep creating beautiful products for them.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Searching social media and following other companies that you love in your industry is definitely helpful. It’s important to have your own identity but seeing what is working for other people is a great way to start. We love podcasts in the kitchen! Girls Gotta Eat, The Bitch Bible, Berning In Hell, and Call Her Daddy to name a few. I wish it was cheese-related but sometimes you just have to let the stress of the day escape and just laugh a little.
