Rising Stars: Meet Kevin House Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin House Jr.

Hi Kevin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I always had a camera in my hands but never thought it would lead to a business. I had dreams of attending a school for art after high-school, but couldn’t afford college. So I self-studied artwork like Rembrandt, Gordon Parks. When I moved closer to Hollywood, I met other people who shoot as well and built a portfolio while working as PA onset. After a year, I realized that I wanted “my name on the front of the building” vs. being a cog in the industry. I wanted to run the ship, own a business. So I went solo, started my own business providing a video production service that provides both quality work and service.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is as smooth as it will be for a black business owner with no formal education and no safety net, living in LA, lol. But I met some cool people on the way, online and offline. The biggest struggle was the business side, having to learn from failed opportunities. This business requires thick skin, coffee and strategy.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Videographer and Photographer based in Los Angeles. I create engaging content and visuals for influencers, musicians and creatives on social media. Flexibility, Ingenuity, and Passion are my assets that help me deliver on any kind of project on the table. I focus on independent artists and small businesses local to Los Angeles. What sets me apart from other videographers is my connection with the clients as well as the work I’m creating. I have fun onset with them. I teach them how to love the process of making the image.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Running my own business has been the best idea I’ve ever had. Nothing feels better than the freedom of being your own boss. And knowing that I can pass this business to my kids. When I look back to my happiest moments, I always had a camera in my hands.
