Rising Stars: Meet Kenita Hunter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenita Hunter.

Hi Kenita, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a passion for acting. Unfortunately, through a series of events life pulled me away from my calling and I lost sight of the dream. In 2015 I attended a conference where Hollywood producer and pastor Devon Franklin was speaking. It transported me back to my time spent in acting classes at the Baltimore School for the Arts. That day I went home and shared it with my husband. He supported me and I enthusiastically left my job to dive headfirst Into this world. Since then, I’ve hit the ground running; having one a talent showcase, placed as a finalist in a couple of monologue competitions and built relationships with casting directors on both coasts. March of 2019, we made the move to Los Angeles and I am excited to see what other things are to come. Since arriving here, I have secured Commercial Representation and Management. Due to the many shifts of COVID-19, I am pivoting over into content creation. It is my desire to create stories that are bold and unapologetic so that the next generation can be all the things we could not.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the challenges I’ve faced have been time management as a mother of three, finances and my own self-doubt.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Actress and Youtuber in Los Angeles. I shine in drama because I get to pull so much of myself to the characters. What sets me apart from others is my faith. I wear proudly. I believe God is the source of everything I’ve ever accomplished. He’s interwoven in the stories I want to share and the goals I create. On my channel, I seek to inspire and uplift. I share motivational messages on Sundays and acting tips and experiences on Tuesdays.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see myself as a series regular in a show that presents a woman of color in a way we’ve seldom seen. Perhaps I will get to tell the story of our first female Vice President.
