Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Moncada.
Hi Katherine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to the US from Honduras ten years ago, I’m a computer technician and also left half a college degree of computer science but life changed and for a lot of reasons I didn’t finish my career there, But life had other plans for me. I have always loved makeup but I never imagined dedicating myself to this career, they always told me that I did beautiful makeup, but it wasn’t until four years ago when I started taking classes as a professional makeup artist without imagining where this would take me. I started asking photographers, models if we could do collaborations, I asked in Facebook groups and on Instagram. After a long year, I had the opportunity to do backstage makeup for the Latin billboards, then the pandemic came but that hasn’t stopped me. Today I have experience in music videos, television, shows, photo shoots, campaigns, weddings. (Latin American music awards) (Latin Grammys) (BMI Latin awards) (here comes your man Amazon series) (Wingman magazine) (vigourmagazine) (LAFASHION WEEK) (OCfashionweek) (Red Bull batalla show) etc.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a very difficult path, in the beginning because I did not know anything about the industry, I did not know how to start, I did not know anyone, but I have never been afraid of new challenges and I think that has made me chase my dreams even more.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a freelance makeup and hair artist I am a very creative person. I love doing trendy photo shoots and avant-garde.
But I also really enjoy doing makeup for brides, quinceañeras and proms, they are unique days in the lives of these beautiful girls and I love seeing them when they look in the mirror excited for their big day.
People know me because I am the most punctual person in the world and I have never canceled a client.
I am proud that I can go from a natural look to the use of Prosthetics and that I can develop in any part of the industry, today I can do makeup for a bride and tomorrow I will be doing makeup for a tv series.
What differentiates me from others I think is my charisma I am a very happy joker but when it comes to work I am the most serious, I always help and support others.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The most important thing I learned was family is key to be able to succeed.
