Rising Stars: Meet Kadee Rosales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kadee Rosales.

Hi Kadee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came to LA back in 2016 for a mission trip. During the two weeks I was here, I worked with an organization called Oasis of Hollywood — where I am now the program’s director. Oasis gave me the tools necessary to learn how to practically serve those experiencing homelessness, at-risk kids & teens, and those who have simply run out of hope. I connected so strongly with the Oasis’ mission to help hurting people that I joined as an intern the following Summer. Since then, I’ve become a full-time staff. My husband and I are the Program’s Directors, overseeing our after-school program, Oasis Youth program, and food outreach every week. Our goal is to connect with at-risk kids, teenagers, and their families and get them the resources they need to not only survive but to thrive and have hope for their future.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road. One major thing that I’ve struggled with was believing that I could actually do this job. I face a lot of “heavy” situations every day — families facing poverty, kids struggling with self-harm & depression, teens trying to fight drug abuse… the list goes on and on. I found myself becoming overwhelmed & like I was not the person for the job. However, I learned that God has truly called me to this city & to these kids and their families. It may not always be easy, but each day He equips me with what I need to deal with the problem at hand.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the program’s director at the Oasis of Hollywood. The Oasis of Hollywood exists to encourage hope, inspire faith, and develop potential in the lives of marginalized, under-served kids, teenagers, and families in Hollywood. I believe that every person was created by God for a specific purpose, but not many get to find out what that purpose is because they do not have the appropriate resources — the Oasis exists to be that resource.

The youth in Hollywood is not a demographic that is normally reached out to by non-profits, but they are our focus. Every week, I, along with an incredible team, get to lead young people away from lives of addiction, violence, confusion, and depression and into a life filled with joy, peace, and purpose. I’m proud that we’re not only providing for the current, immediate needs — like groceries, hot meals, and appliances — but we’re also investing in their future.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. I may not be perfect — but I can be consistent and that’s what means more to people!
