Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeantel Carter.
Hi Jeantel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always had a creative spirit. I have always took part in plays, dance teams, creative arts, and design. I fell into fashion more seriously when I got into junior high. I could always be found altering my clothes or trying to make things to wear with my outfits to stand out. I was never into name brands and had a strong eye for design. That took me into what would be my dream career of being a fashion designer. I went to one of the top fashion schools here in California, Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising. This was all during the era of the tv series on MTV, The Hills. LC (Lauren Conrad) was still attending the school, so the school was in everyone’s interest to attend. After finishing my Design Degree and getting a few jobs in the fashion corporate world, I began my journey in the entrepreneur world. Some odd years later, I would get my Bachelor’s degree from the Art Institute. Fast forward to 2020, when I had my first baby, I needed something that I could use to keep my life organized with all these new responsibilities and a small case of “mom brain” after having a baby. So I created my life journal that I used to plan my meals, track workouts, stay on top of all my to do’s and important dates, organize my budget and everything else in between. I reached out to others like me to see if they would be interested in such a product, and to my surprise this idea “stuck”. Although I wasn’t too surprised because I kept having something tugging at me to move on this idea, but at the same time I was in regards to how well people took to it. So I ran with it, and I am making it a successful business venture that I hope to use as an avenue to bring my fashion back into the mix!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting off as an entrepreneur to now being a mompreneur has not been the smoothest road traveled. Just the idea of owning your own business as a single individual is a lot. I have learned over the years this is not something for the weak-hearted. We see so much of what seems to be “overnight success” on social media and get discouraged when we don’t see those same results after the first day of launching our business. Ultimately, that’s why I stopped and started so many times with new business ideas because I wasn’t getting that instant success. Now being a mom and starting yet another new business venture, I am pushing myself to stick with it no matter what! I have good days with high sales and weeks with no sales. So I would be lying if I said I never thought why am I doing this?! I’ve always struggled with believing in myself. I one day had to sit back and say, “What am I really scared of?” Was I scared of failing, or was I scared of actually succeeding? I struggled with that for so long, and it has hindered me completely from reaching my potential. Yet, even in my own moments of not believing in myself I found that I was still inspiring others because I was still trying and pushing past those insecurities to have a business of my own. So every day is a struggle, owning your own business with a husband and a newborn – but it has its inspiring and rewarding moments as well.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently have my new “baby” which is Style Creative Agency, specializing in custom planners, journals, and notebooks for the mompreneur & bossbabe to keep them organized in style. I have a strong background in fashion, so I like to bring that into the mix in any way that I can. I offer style bundles with curated items, including accessories. I am working on some new designs for a mompreneur/bossbabe handbag, as well as styled fashion lookbooks that will be shoppable. I have a whole lot in the works! I also have a special place in my heart for small businesses and offer creative services to help get them established. I know how expensive it can be when first starting a business. I hate when I see the quality of a business lack because they don’t have the funds to get their business set up to reflect a high level of professionalism. With that, I wanted to offer creative services in the areas of digital design, website setup, and company branding at affordable prices. I am proud to have the education and knowledge to create products and offer services that can help so many on a broad level. I am a one stop shop in a sense. I make everything by hand with minimal outsourcing, and I love that about my brand. I have a very high level of quality, and not to mention compassion for all my clients and customers.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like that there is diversity! There is so much to see and learn where we live. I also love that there are opportunities everywhere and that creativity flows around every corner! The people are accepting for the most part of those who are different. The things I don’t like about our city is the high cost of living, the traffic, and the pollution! After taking a trip to Oregon, and smelling “clean air” oh my god – it was amazing!!!
