Today we’d like to introduce you to Hillary Marie.

Hi Hillary, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a self-taught dancer born and raised in Hollandale, Mississippi. Growing up all throughout kindergarten and high school, ‘I was a cheerleader. As my time being a cheerleader, I noticed I always had a lot more rhythm than your average cheerleader. In 2018, at the age of 18, the moment I graduated high school, dance became my therapy.

Dance became my best friend. I started being able to create movement in my head and then immediately began to be able to display it. Without having taken any dance lessons from anyone, I knew my gift was special. In 2019, I started my brand “Heels with Hills LLC” and I hosted my first dance class that hosted 60 people. At that particular moment, I realized the gift of teaching was inside of me. Fast forwarding to now, Here I am today, at 22 years old, making a name for myself, living out my childhood dreams and doing things I never would’ve imagined. I am truly blessed and honored and all glory goes to God for everything.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Anything worth having does not come easy. This road has been bumpy and filled with many trials and errors but everything has a lesson and a purpose. Some of my struggles that I’ve faced have been learning how to deal with doubters and growing tough skin. Because I am self-taught, a lot of people often doubted me because I didn’t necessarily gain my success, knowledge or skills from someone else. But I always like to say, the only person who is able to tell you when it’s your time to shine, is God. No one else can tell you when it’s your time. What’s meant for you, is for you. Rather people like it or not, no one can stop your blessings. I’ve also had to teach myself to stop getting upset because some people may not agree or like what I do. I constantly remind myself on a daily basis that not everyone is meant to be your supporter or fan. As humans, we don’t and we won’t align with everyone and that’s fine. The people who are meant to be our supporters are our supporters.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for my style of dancing and I have to say I’m most proud of that. I’m proud that my style is my style and I didn’t copy it from anyone else. I found my own way and individuality is so important today in a world filled with tons of replicas. My style of dancing is more so hip hop in a heel. I am a performance enhancer and energy-based dancer. Meaning, stamina is important while attending my classes or doing any or my choreography. I’m going to give you the fire! I always teach my students, if you start with fire, you must end with fire. Expect nothing but high energy and performance enhancement while dancing with me.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters to me the most is that I don’t end my day, the way that I started. I mean that in the most positive way. Every day, we get a chance to do something new with our life. Every day we get a chance to accomplish something that we didn’t accomplish yesterday. We often take waking up for granted but I think waking up for a new day is the ultimate gift. It’s God’s way of telling you to keep going, there’s more for you to see, to do, to conquer. Another day to continue leaving my mark on everything I touch in this world. Every day, I want to do something (no matter if it’s big or small) that I didn’t get a chance to do the previous day. Everything that comes our way in life, has a purpose and a lesson, even if it’s for a split of a second. That’s what matters to me the most.
