Rising Stars: MEET DJWESTB

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJWESTB.

Hi DJWESTB, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in and out of the Foster System my Mom is BioPolar Sciso and my Dad was in and out of jail. During the times I was out of the system, I lived with my Great Grandmother and my Aunt’s they gave and taught me the tools of life being that my Great Grandmother migrated here from Belize when she was 50 years old. It has always been instilled in me to be the greatest I can be. They told me lots of stories of my Grandfather being a famous Trumpet player, which shows where I got my music side from. So I kinda knew Music was my Passion.

At the age of 18, I was kinda lost getting fresh out of the system with no real guidance, I ended up going down the wrong path which lead me to in and out of jail, the last time I went to jail I knew a change needed to happen in my life. I was up against 2 counts of Attempt Murder 25 to Life is what I was faced with, the case was dismissed, which saved my life. I was on House Arrest and during that time I found Music again but this time, playing music is what me and my relatives called it until I put an actual title on it, DJWESTB being in the foster system, I lived a little bit of everywhere on the West, and the B cause its the only Letter that has Spunk to it.

Once I called myself a DJ is was nonstop goin, I have officially been dj’n for ten years which is very crazy, being that I never thought I would be here with all the accomplishments I have accomplished such as Tv Shows, Traveling state to state, out the Country, Fashion Shows, LA Pride Festival, Celebrity Talk Shows, Resident Dj in West Hollywood, Event Coordinating my own Customers Appreciation “WaterWarsLa’, giving back to artist with my Live Tuesday Music Review “Gas Or Trash” teaching upcoming DJ’s the art of music with my company “LitCityLa” and helping young women in Adult entertainment with my company “HouseOfCakesLA” right after breaking both ankles in a car accident. Honestly, I never seen myself making this much of an impact in my life being where I started from. I’ve learned over these years it doesn’t matter where you started but where you are going.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth ride first of all Foster Care is another Ball game you have to deal with things you never thought you had to living in homes with strangers. Once getting out of Foster care it was kinda hard to get back in the grove of life because your in a system within a system and once you leave you’re all alone with no real help, so I turned to the streets which was no real help. It only lead me to do the worse in life which was a bittersweet moment, but it also made me wake up and notice life is precious and not to waste it and not let my grandmother down like my Dad did with the streets,

My latest struggle was breaking both of my ankles in a car accident on December 20th, 2019. I was sleeping in the passenger seat and my BestFriend at the time ran into a parked car which left both of my ankles broken. Where I was at whatever that was under the hood of the car fell on both of my feet. I had to learn to stand, walk and use my feet all over again. That was the biggest struggle I had, it played a big part of my mental, physical and emotional.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My job as a creative is I create content as a DJ, Event Coordinate, Teach New Dj’s the art of Music, Help artist break records with Music Review, Mixtape Hosting, Song Hosting, and Album Hosting.

I specialize in Mc’n/Blowing the whistle and Crowed Control.

I’m most proud that I can be a role model for every female dj of the California.

What sets me aside is my crowed control and Energy.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For anyone just starting out, find you a Mentor or somebody that believes in you that’s in the lane you choose to be in, they can teach you so much and help guide you in many different ways. Don’t Give up on yourself and Set your Goals high. One of my goals is to have my own Water Park where I can have my own festivals and Summer fun.

Honestly, I had it the hardest coming into the DJ game no one wanted to help or teach me simply because I’m a female when I started dj’n it was only me and Carisma and she was on the Radio so for the streets it was only me. It took me three years of being a Dj to find someone to really teach me and the only way he (Dj Xtraz) taught me was if I bought a NS7, so I bought it and he taught me everything I know, I added my twist on it and its been a WestB show ever since.
