Rising Stars: Meet Chase Hanssen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Hanssen.

Hi Chase, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a Photographer. Taking photos has always been a part of my life, but I never really considered taking it seriously as a profession until the Covid pandemic hit and we went into lock-down. The world being on pause caused so much heartache for millions; an upbringing of new obstacles would present itself to many in different ways; my first obstacle was losing my job and going without work for almost six months. In hindsight, I didn’t realize it would be that time that helped me re-evaluate what I really wanted to do.

I made the decision one year ago to just go for it with no real prior experience or training to do photography full time. In March of 2021, I decided to move from Utah to LA for bigger opportunities. Moving here was one of the scariest decisions I have made; I went from a small clientele to knowing no one, $200 in my bank account, and no idea how long I would last.

Fast-forward six months and I have been able to shoot with major publications (Playboy and Calvin Klein) and so many great clients! I am still a very new photographer with so much to learn, but the one thing that I have is drive, a thirst for learning, and big goals for where my photography will take me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I think anyone starting their own business finds that it is far from smooth. I am a planner, a worrier, and need that feelings of security. Moving to LA to pursue photography took all of the security of a job from me.

I moved here with $200 in my bank account, and no one would ever know because I hid it well. Meeting with my first few clients for coffee, I would be worried about paying. There was a balance of looking established while desperately needing the work.

Even now, I would not say I am sitting back with no worries, I am not drowning in work all of the time. The only difference now is that I know if I put in the work, the opportunities will come.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a full-time photographer!

I am known mostly for editorial-style photography. I feel that I am known for my ability to have a client with no modeling experience and creating published worthy content and hopefully giving them a new confidence in themselves.

I will always be most proud of those clients that book with me that have a low self-esteem, no modeling experience, and a desire to look and feel special. Showing my clients just how beautiful they are will hopefully give them a new drive in life! My own personal accomplishment I am proud of is being able to shoot with Playboy, this was my first sign that I am taking big steps since moving here.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I feel that with anyone whose work is on social media has a sugar-coated view of their life. A lot of my larger clients have no idea that I have only been a photographer for a year, and many of my supporters would never realize that I didn’t move here with a pile of work waiting for me.

  • Anyone can shoot with me for a starting price of $300, the price changing based on the package.
