Rising Stars: Meet Camille Aligue and Robert Buttles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille Aligue and Robert Buttles.

Hi Camille and Robert, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are a Los Angeles-based couple whose relationship started from our love for adventure. We actually met on a dating app where Camille messaged Robert asking about a specific lake that was in one of his photos. That led us to talking more about the trips that we’ve gone on individually which eventually brought us to being the adventure duo that we are now! Since then, we’ve gone on a handful of adventures with some of our favorites being summiting Mount Whitney (the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States), going to London for the weekend, and hiking through handful of national parks.

Always having been a fan of capturing memories in the hopes that they’ll be preserved for years down the line, our blog Adventures of Us was created as a space to share our travels and adventures. From road trips, climbing mountains, going on backpacking trips, traveling across the globe, to simple afternoons at the beach and catching a classic California sunset, we believe that there is so much that we can experience in this world and that these are experiences that we want to share with each other. Through our site, we share everything from adventure guides, hiking reports, gear reviews, and so much more in the hopes of inspiring someone out there to go outside and experience what we’ve written about for themselves.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We think with any blog, the hardest part is definitely getting started. We’ve been adventuring together even before the blog existed so the trips were always there, however, we did have to learn about the technicalities of actually running one. As far as struggles when it comes to our trips, we try not to get the need to get content/photos for the blog to get in the way of actually enjoying the moment. We think we do a pretty good job at making sure this doesn’t happen by keeping the adventure as the priority and stemming our content from that, compared to letting the need to get content to dictate what adventures we go on.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We created our site a space to simply share our travels with friends and family and we’re happy to see that it’s now grown into a site that others can use to help plan their own trips as well. What sets us apart from other travel blogs is that both of us hold full-time jobs during the week so a lot of our trips are planned around making the most of the time we have on the weekends. We think this can resonate to a lot of people as it’s not easy to simply take the time off from work to travel frequently. Being based in Los Angeles, weekend trips are totally doable as we’re surrounded by so many beautiful places to explore and you can definitely do some amazing trips such as backpack in the Sierras or even make it all the way to Utah as long as you’re willing to put in the effort!

Another aspect of our blog that we are proud of is the quality of the content that we produce. Camille is an avid planner and puts a lot of effort in planning our trips so she ensures that the posts answer all the questions that our readers may have when it comes to putting together their own trips. On top of that, photography has always been one of her biggest passions and she loves how she can preserve her favorite memories in such a special way so our posts are often very visual and photo-heavy to help make our readers feel as if they’re actually on the trip with us!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I (Camille) think that Robert definitely deserves more credit than he gets with the blog! I think a lot of people assume that I write all the content and take all the photos for our posts but Robert actually takes a great deal of the photos that get published on our site. Most importantly, he constantly pushes me to step out of my comfort zone. He’s definitely the more adventurous one out of the two of us and our trips, especially our hiking and backpacking trips, wouldn’t be as successful as they are if it weren’t for his constant encouragement!
