Today we’d like to introduce you to Bradley Evette.
Hi Bradley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m the owner of the clothing line Iman Evette where we specialize in modern clothing for women of all shapes and sizes. Since I was a little girl I have always been into fashion, photography, and beauty. When I was in middle school I thought how cool it would be if I had my own clothing line. At that time I was growing up as this cute little chubby kid and sometimes it was very difficult to find things that I loved as far as fashion; I didn’t see many girls who looked like me in the clothes that I liked and that bothered me. I wanted to make a change and create a brand that was for everyone and to me that included plus-size girlies and the girlies with curves. So in middle school, I started with the idea and naming my brand after my middle name and my sister Christina’s. This clothing line now became an idea in my head for many years and it wasn’t until after college that I actually started to actually put Iman Evette into the real world.
During this time I had already created my YouTube channel, and I started posting on Instagram so I had a small platform that I could utilize as I grew my clothing line. It also was a little tricky because I didn’t have the funds so while I was working my retail jobs I would save money to the side so I could save up for things that I needed to start my business. Mind you I had no background in starting a business at all so how I started was tons of research, lots of googling and a lot of trial and error.I ended up saving around $400 to get my website, my domain, other business needs and clothing from downtown Los Angeles. Then it was 2018 and that’s when I officially launched Iman Evette and ever since then we have been growing slowly but surely. This has been a beautiful marathon that I continue to see grow and I’m so excited to see where it goes. Having my small platforms, in the beginning, an amazing friends and family who were supportive have helped catapult Iman Evette to be running still after four years. This is a proud accomplishment for me because as you know most businesses do not last that long especially when you are a new business.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth at all, working jobs that I did not care to be at, receiving doubt from certain people that you thought were your friends, even the self-doubt at times definitely in the beginning was very hard. I’ve had to learn patience, I’ve had to learn how to be more organized, I’ve had to learn how to talk business and understand numbers anything and everything you can think of. Even in the crazy world of shipping. Which I’m still learning about! My struggles were also that money was a little difficult to
come by because in the beginning, I didn’t think much about money during this process and I would spend my money frivolously on whatever back then, so it was a bit of a challenge. Also the balance of growing my personal social media platforms while also working on Iman Evette. It’s always been a juggle act but it always worked out in the end. Now I’m at a point where my platforms are flourishing and I’m getting opportunities to showcase my brand and myself which is beautiful. I’ve also learned how to be patient, learned how to manage my emotions, and learned how to become a better businesswoman through all the trial and error. The obstacles and challenges have been hard but with God, I have continued through to my passions and I continue on this path that I’m going and I am extremely blessed to have such a supportive family and friends who truly love, care and support my dreams. When you have strong support and strong faith in God there is no obstacle or challenge that can hinder you.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
You should know that I’m just an overall chill person when I’m in my world. I’m such a creative person through and through. My faith in God keeps me grounded yet striving for more and I overall just care about people. I feel like I’m here for a reason and I know my passions will continue to guide me there. I am known for being myself, and showcasing my style whether that be from my brand Iman Evette or just how I decorate my environment. And I’m most proud of the growth that I see in myself.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as completing something that you are passionate about to the best of your ability and not only being able to help yourself but help people around you. Whether that be creating clothes for people who don’t see their representation in the industry or learning a new skill that you can share with others that you know could help people for the greater good. Success is all about achieving, sharing and continuing the process. This world is tough to live in and we all have to help each other the best way we can.
