Rising Stars: Meet Assata Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Assata Jones.

Hi Assata, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Outside of a childhood full of school choir rehearsals and after school rehearsals for local plays, my solo career initiated in my first year of college. I’d make covers on YouTube and share them with friends which caught the attention of Tiny from Xscape. Ended up joining a female group she started for a short while and even though I didn’t see it through, I trusted the process that what was on my heart would soon materialize. That commitment birthed a fanbase, a cute catalogue and breathtaking opportunities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
If you haven’t failed, then you haven’t accomplished anything. That’s what I try to constantly remind myself when I feel obstacles have caused me to neglect my strength. It’s so interesting how we all have this set plan for how we see things unfolding in our lives and our creator just laughs. I’ve had shows that I hadn’t felt I done my best and content I’ve released that might have humiliated me at certain points but I’ve realized it’s all apart of the process. It’s all preparing me for who I strive to be which is a vessel that translates the highest expression of creativity to inspire those around me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer-songwriter, actress and dancer. I mostly specialize in singing and songwriting, but because of my social media presence, a lot of people gravitate to my wellness brand, “How You Start Your Day is How You Love Your Life.” I’m mostly proud of my commitment and clarity. Those vibrations have allowed me to attract huge opportunities like a world tour with Solange, a Netflix debut and a gang of records that I wrote. what sets me apart is my constant intent to be myself. I believe there’s only one of me so why not embrace her, ya know?

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Good music, riffs and runs. A warm hug. Butterflies. A hot cup of chamomile tea with honey and lemon. A good stretch. A call from a family member. A moment for laughter. A new outfit. My favorite song. Crossing off my to do list. Manifesting.
