Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Buckley.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story begins in early 2019, a year before Covid hit when I was let go from my corporate job of eight years. I had been in the fashion industry for almost 15 years and was ready for a change but I had no idea what the Universe had in store for me.
The year of transitioning from a career woman to a stay at home mom was the most brutal and humbling experience. I was lost in many ways and little did I know that losing your way is not about finding your next destination but slowing down to enjoy the journey. Cue the pandemic. 2020 was a year of reflection and connection with my inner self. I started meditating and learned a lot thru quieting my conscious mind and listening to what my subconscious had to say. I started facing my fears head on, asking why I had them and then started to explore them more. I quickly learned that fear takes a hold of us by making us believe that there is actually something to fear, that we are in some sort of danger. We fear the outcome of the future and I did not know what my future held. But fear has no foothold if we accept what’s about to come. That’s how I realized that the opposite of fear is acceptance. So, not only did I decide to accept my new role in the family, I was going to become the best version of myself and have a lot of fun while doing so. And the result has been really beautiful. Happy wife; Happy life right!
In order to be a better version of myself I was going to have to figure out what it was that actually brought me joy and do more of that. So, I’ve always loved interior design and coordinating things so they look beautiful together. During quarantine, I redesigned a few rooms in our house and really enjoyed the process. My friends raved about the results and encouraged me to get into design as a profession. I styled for friends and family but I knew there was something more I could offer besides suggestions for just buying more things. That’s when I listened to my intuition and took a course on Feng Shui and got my certification to become a consultant.
Serene Home Styling offers much more than interior design and home styling. I offer my clients the opportunity to look at their homes with a fresh perspective while also incorporating intentional design ideas that have a purpose and tell a story. The experience has been wonderful and I’ve truly enjoyed helping people foster a new connection with their homes and spark positivity in their lives. A home is not just a place; it’s a feeling. My goal is to help people fall in love with their home again and create a “high vibe” environment for everyone to enjoy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Luckily the only obstacle I’ve faced is me and doubting my capabilities. Getting the website and systems/operations up and running was pretty intimidating. But I learned that asking for help is okay and I quickly became at peace with the motto: “launch and learn.”
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
On the surface, Feng Shui is simply the interaction of humans and their environments. Take a step further, Feng Shui allows you to strategically influence these interactions to achieve specific life improvements by positioning or designing your surroundings in harmony with principles of natural energy flow. By making simple adjustments, you’ll gain harmony in your home and/or workplace. WIth harmony comes the likelihood of better health, wealth and relationships. I’ve seen it work first hand with individuals for example, who are looking for a partner, who would like to take the next step in their career, alleviate health problems or even help children sleep thru the night.
Being certified in Feng Shui means I also have the capabilities to do Energy Cleansing, Space Clearings, New Home Blessings and much more. Anything you want to achieve in your home and personal life, you can accomplish by working with a Feng Shui consultant. I’m so excited to have this newfound knowledge and I want to share it with as many people as I possibly can. I’m beyond thrilled that I’ve found a way to connect with people in a positive way, do something that brings me joy and help people feel fulfilled on so many levels.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
If the pandemic has taught me anything, it’s to pause, breath and be grateful for what we have. I personally am a big consumer and love the instant gratification of Amazon and online shopping. So when the supply chain crisis slowed everything down, I became annoyed and frustrated. I started shopping small again and visiting flea markets and Etsy shops. The experience has been wonderful and I love treasure hunting for items that have amazing stories behind them. It’s also fun to discover treasures that you forgot you had when cleaning out spaces and decluttering. What’s old is new again!
