Rising Stars: Meet Armaan Lucknowala

Today we’d like to introduce you to Armaan Lucknowala.

Hi Armaan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started out in high school as a computer science major and always wanted to be a coder in life, but the passion fell through when I realized my love for photography, which really kickstarted everything. I decided after high school to do a one month program in New York for filmmaking and I absolutely fell in love with it. I am the type of person who thinks knowledge is always a useful and intriguing weapon in today’s world, and that’s why I choose to join the New York Film Academy for a Bachelors in Filmmaking course to gain as much knowledge and experience from it. I just graduated almost a month back and now I’m currently working as a freelancer and in the process of finding a job.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I moved from Bombay, India to Los Angeles in 2018, when I was 19 years old, the transition of moving countries is always difficult but it teaches you how to be independent and deal with problems yourself, this really allowed me to grow as a person and become who I am today.

I wasn’t even always good at basic subjects like physics, maths, chemistry and etc. but I always had an eye for art.

When I was 15, I directed my first play for our school’s drama competition and ended up as the runner up.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a filmmaker. I love to direct, write and produce films, commercials and music videos. That is my passion.

I have worked on many short films, music videos and commercials in Los Angeles and Bombay and directed my own two short films which are in running for film festivals.

My eventual goal in life is to have my own production house, which produces content for the market of Bollywood and Hollywood.

What matters most to you? Why?
For me, my family matters the most, they are my support system and the reason I am where I am today. All my friends also who have supported me and motivated me into being a better person and a better filmmaker. And lastly, my work.

Working on set or writing a film doesn’t seem like a job to me, it’s more of a passion and it’s something that I could do for the rest of my life.
