Rising Stars: Meet Ani Mayo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ani Mayo.

Bahari Organix began as a simple quarantine project to spread the word about sea moss. Three Black women, contemplating life, opportunity, health, influence, and equality. In one afternoon, those three Black women birthed Bahari Organix and we’ve kept those same principles close to our mission as Bahari developed. However, sea moss has been in Ayan’s (co-founder) family for generations. Returning to her roots of Jamaican and Somalian descent, Ayan crafted the most nutritious and delicious sea moss combinations. Bahari was made with people like you in mind. Hard working individuals who are trying their best to stay sane and healthy. It’s a full-time job PLUS overtime maintaining your mental and physical health. 2020 has forced us to examine what self-care really looks and feels like. Our intention with Bahari Organix is to be one of the many steps towards a healthy mind and body. One scoop of our 100% organic, alkalined sea moss will give you the nutrients and power you need to conquer your day. And why stop there? We plan to integrate sea moss into skin and hair care products as well. There’s just too many benefits to sea moss and we want our community to know that operating at your most optimal level doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming. It can be as simple as a scoop of sea moss every morning.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh of course. I mean trying to start a business during quarantine with unexpected last minute expenses and every supply store out of inventory, we’ve really had to be resourceful to fulfill our sea moss demands.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Ayan – is a writer/producer at a prominent production studio in Hollywood. She is currently in the processing of developing a short film. Ani – I work as an entertainment marketing professional. This is one of the first times I’ve been able to lead a project. And it feels good to own something. To have physical evidence of your work, there’s no way to deny your success or to take credit for someone else work when you’re running a business, your ego is stripped. I’m just so glad my ego was stripped and at the end, I could still say I did a good job, I’m confident in my abilities, in what I produced. I’m not the creative type, I’m the ‘let me handle the logistics’ type, but Bahari Organix has awaken the creative entrepreneur in me. Bahari has allowed me to become intimate with my community, specifically the Black community in LA. They’ve supported us from the beginning and I hope we continue to make them proud.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Sea Moss really has no taste! I’ll the silent multivitamin you never knew you needed.
