Rising Stars: Meet Albi Neziri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Albi Neziri.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m an actor and dancer from Switzerland, my roots are Kosovo-Albanian.

I remember my first time on stage; 1st grade, the show was a Brother Grimm kid’s theater play. I was so bad at it that my older brother was very ashamed and tried to make gestures from the audience that I shouldn’t be that loud, I was doing bad. The moment was born of improving myself. I knew I needed to proof my brother, my destiny got me.

23 years later and my destiny led its path back to acting. But this time on a bigger stage with a different audience and a brother full of tears, hope and being the person who never stops believing in me. Life is a journey and as long as my little light is lighten up I will never lose hope even if it takes another 23 years to make someone feel my art.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
What is life without obstacles? Hehe… I think personally the hardest part was to make the decision to come overseas. To backpack the stuff from home and knowing that the challenges will become totally different. But once I made the decision, there wasn’t a way out. To quit a regular job back home meant being self-employed and no security anymore. But all those insecurities lead me to keep going and experience totally new sides of me. The more I go through hard times the better I become to manage them.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a kid, I loved to see artists. Every kind of art inspired me. Music, dance, sculpture and theater. Today my way to express is acting and dancing. Since 2019 I’m attending an acting conservatory in LA. It’s a space to grow and learn. 2021, COVID made me go back home to Switzerland. At the meantime, I was creating and directing my first short movie ‘Consequences’ which played on several film festivals and won some awards. However, I could make some experience in a swiss television series which made me really proud so far. Nowadays my daily life is to create and to express myself. My dance expressions are on social media as well. Creating my own hip hop freestyle, helps me to create in acting.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
LA is great it has a lot to offer. As a boy from a village, things were way smaller. To get a car was my first thought. But once you get one, you get used to the distances but never to the traffic. Traffic just happened in our village if a big event was going on. So Los Angeles is a busy eventful place which is great for me to never stop dreaming.
