Rising Stars: Meet Aarica Gardner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aarica Gardner.

Hi Aarica, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in mid-city LA and South Central. I went to king drew high school in Compton and was introduced to a mascara called bad gal lash and that’s where my lash obsession started. I loved wearing mascara because it really made my eyelashes long and pretty and it changed the whole look of my face. A few years later, I started getting eyelash extensions done and my obsession with long lashes grew. I was getting my eyelashes done by a woman who was using bad products and ended up losing every single lash on my eye. Then the lightbulb went off in my head and I realized that I could learn how to do eyelashes properly and possibly do them on myself. I went on to become a licensed aesthetician And started working and doing lashes right away. Unfortunately, I was unable to do the lash extensions on myself so thought that I would start teaching a course on lash extensions to other girls so that we could do them on each other. I started off working in Beverly Hills and built a great clientele there. I went on to work for myself and I’m blessed with an amazing clientele who has now become friends. I love teaching others how to do lash extensions and I have developed a lash wash and I’m working on other lash products as well. I love the joy and happiness that come from my clients after they get their eyelashes done. When you look your best, you feel your best and I love that I am able to bring that type of happiness to others.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had many struggles along the way. I realize that to work for others, you need a degree but you don’t need one to make yourself rich. When I was working for other people, I wasn’t paid fairly also was not treated fairly. I never gave up and I continued To perfect my craft. I’ve dealt with crazy clients, crazy bosses, racism within the workplace and more. I never let any of those obstacles break me and I realized that persistence and consistency will get me far and it did

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in volume lash extensions. I make my own lash fans and customize Lash fans to each individual eyelashes. I love that I can change the look of somebody’s face by adding lash extensions. I am most proud of the relationships that I’ve built with my clients. I have clients that have been with me for four years now without taking a lash break. I am proud that I came from nothing and built a business. What sets me aside from others is that I care about my work and my relationships with my clients. I would never let a client walk out unhappy or incomplete.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for those starting out Is don’t take things too serious. Or personal. Also, messing up is a good thing always. When you mess up, you learn. Take everything as a learning experience.
