Meet Zhiwei Pan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zhiwei Pan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Zhiwei. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My name is Zhiwei Pan, a female independent artist, member of the Oil Painter of America,  who was born in Shanghai, China and lives in Portland, Oregon. I learned Chinese Calligraphy and Landscape Painting at four years old. I was admitted by the high score which is the first list at the top China University-the East Normal University, also it is where I have received my BA in Art Education. After that, I pursued my MA degree in Curriculum and Institution in the US. During this period, a lot of my art has won awards in various competitions, such as special recognition on “Light Time Space Art”, 2nd and 3rd Rome Prize Art, etc. Two of my catalogs have been published in the US, one of them “I JUST WANNA PAINT ALL-DAY”(Blurb Book Publication, 2019, ISBN: 9780464182160)  which participated in the Shanghai abC Artbook Fair in 2019. “Zhiwei Pan 2019-2020 Portrait Catalog   Project Option: Large Format Landscape” (Blurb Book Publication, 2020, ISBN:9781714303564). My accent Chinese Culture Story series oil paintings were invited to exhibit solely in Yui Gallery in NYC in July 2019. I was honored to be interviewed by the Portland Time Newspaper during my solo art shows at Art on Broadway in Beaverton and Nucleus Portland. Immediately after these, The C Art Gallery showed their great interests to exhibit my Chinese Myth Oil series in Seattle. The exhibition will open till the end of 2020. The C Art Gallery has already decided to represent some of my work since late 2019. I have been recognized by quite a number of well-reputable media in China and U.S, including Full Access NYC, Voyage LA, Sina.com, Sohu.com, Art China and many more.

Also, I have left my name in many art competitions. Recently, one of my oil “Way” was invited to be exhibited in Italy, a global annual exhibition and event for women painters which had 15 years of history since 2005. My works have been presented in many mediums such as oil painting, acrylic painting, illustration, sketch in charcoal and pencil. My favorite medium to work with is oil which is also been highly recognized by the public mostly. I am preparing for the Zhiwei Pan solo show in Tokyo, Japan and Shanghai, China this year and working on my female figure serious artwork which will participate in the 2021 La Biennale di Venezia.

In addition, I have been invited by Dores Sacquegna a famous art curator of Primo Piano LivinGallery to exhibit my new oil “Way” in Italy in March 2020. It is an international female artist annual exhibition since 2005. Recently, few of the art collectors and galleries asked for more information about this painting. The work will have a chance to be permanently exhibited in Italy. As an independent artist, besides letting more people understand my art, I pay more attention to the psychological activities of contemporary youth and the relationship between culture, society and humans. I am currently creating figure paintings about Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia. Another one of my Chinese Myth series oil painting “Lantern” was privately collected by an American-Chinese family during the Spring Festival in early 2020. They knew about the painting and the main content within Artsy. They love the backstory about this painting which is talking about Chinese myth and missing emotion. This work evokes their infinite fond memories. The things set me apart from others are cultural backgrounds, bright colors, and the grasp of sensitive and delicate emotions.  Hence, people who love my art could be understood as they saw them through my art.

Please tell us more about your art.
Currently, I have been contacted to attend a number of  art shows and exhibitions by art galleries, museums, and awesome artists. I have to admit the US art industry has more freedom to do art. It helps me realize what I really want to present on my work of art.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I think so. I have the chance to go aboard and experience more art shows, exhibitions, museums, and awesome artists. I have to admit the US has more freedom to do art. It helps me realize what I really want to present on my work of art.
