Today we’d like to introduce you to Zachariah Fisher.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a deep love of working with kids. I was the youngest PE teacher in the LAUSD from 2003-2006. I took a hiatus to focus on other pursuits but my passion kept pulling me back to worth with youth.
After eight years in Corporate Sales, I would drive passed schools on my way to work and tear up knowing that my heart yearned to be out there with the kids and not stuck behind a cubicle. I finally mustered up the courage to put an event together with kids that included many of the modalities that greatly impacted my life… Yoga, Qi Gong, Mindfulness, Nature, Smoothies and a little Yoda.
The event was a huge success and ignited my fire so much that I left my job less than six months later and dove into working with kids full time. From there, our organization picked up momentum and built a strong core leadership team with aligned values and vision. We continue to fine tune our model so that it best suits the self-directed learning that we at our very core believe is the best way to allow children to learn and grow.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There have been multiple challenges on this journey of less than three years. Primarily as a startup youth organization, we have had to constantly sharpen our focus on vision.
Getting the organization’s core focus pointed in the same direction has taken a tremendous amount of trial and error. It’s one thing to want to empower youth; it’s another to be disciplined enough to carry that mission forth in a clear, cohesive way.
It is still a work in progress, but we have come leaps and bounds in our short existence and one thing we are not afraid of, is to take risks, push the envelope and truly embody our core belief, that children are the leaders.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Peace Guardians – what should we know?
Peace Guardians is a shared vision of certified youth educators, parents, community leaders, entrepreneurs and artists coming together to empower our future generations. We believe that NOW, more than ever, the planet is calling for a new generation of leaders that work together to cultivate solutions towards a more harmonious world.
Our Peace Guardians team was brought together by a mutual passion for youth enrichment, and a shared concern around the problems youth are facing today. We have seen a rise in social and emotional disconnect. We witness a school system that doesn’t address the whole child and undervalues its teachers.
Kids and Teachers alike are being confined to an outdated education system that does not support their full unique expression. Our vision is to create a decentralized network of empowered educators creating enrichment programs that nurture emotional intelligence and self-development of the whole child.
1. The Guardians Quest:
Inspired by Joseph Campbell’s “hero’s journey” participants move through a series of values as the hero of their own story. Each value/chapter of the program corresponds with supporting activities that allow each child to uniquely embody that value within themselves. The Guardians Quest cultivates emotional literacy, community connection, and empowering leadership skills.
Our Signature flow-state game promotes collaboration while developing hand-eye/foot-eye coordination, agility, and multi-faceted physical/mental/emotional skill sets. The intention of the game is to serve as a community tool for accessing collective and individual flow states. Leading edge studies have shown flow states to enhance performance, increase focus and elevate mood.
