Meet Zaakirah Holt of Girl Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaakirah Holt.

Hi Zaakirah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Before I began creating my online boutique, Girl Lab, I was working at an elementary school as a T.A. for nearly seven years. I remember waking up every morning not feeling excited to go to work because I knew it wasn’t my passion, I was only there because I was getting paid. After several tears and moments of frustration, I decided to take charge and create the life I wanted. I began spending many hours on Google and YouTube searching “How to start a business” “How to make money online” “What’s an LLC?” And one thing led to another! Before I knew it, I had cultivated the most amazing business and even inspired others along the way! Now I get to wake up, create my own schedule, and do what I love everyday. Needless to say, I love it here.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, building a brand has not always been easy. As a beginner, you wear many MANY hats. Social media manager, Email correspondent, Content creator, Web designer. Not to mention still trying to incorporate self-care and other responsibilities. It was hard for me to juggle so many different tasks at once, sometimes it still is. But I know with God at the forefront of everything I do, I’ll never lose.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Girl Lab is an online boutique offering customized and non-customized jewelry. Growing up, I remember going to the kiosks in the mall and literally drooling over the gold jewelry. But it was always so expensive! So I thought, “what if I could create a brand that offers high-quality, trendy jewelry at an affordable cost?” So that’s what I did.

What I love most about my brand’s jewelry is that it’s a way of expressing your authentic self with no restraints. You can tell so much about a person just by the accessories they wear.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
To always listen to your intuition because it’s guiding you somewhere greater than where you are currently.
