Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvon Nguyen.
Yvon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As an entrepreneur and business development expert, I started VANT4GE, a marketing and business intelligence firm serving family-owned businesses to global corporations. VANT4GE specializes in target marketing, sales strategies, and branding with a strong emphasis on multicultural marketing and community relations. I’ve always been a multi-tasker. As I was working for others, I was freelancing as an event consultant and coordinator for several years. I started doing social events and then transitioned into doing business events which I love. From doing business events, I met many business owners who share similar growth needs, expansion goals, and business development challenges. My small event planning business organically grew into a marketing firm to meet demands. When I was working for others, I built new revenue streams, increased sales by 90%, and overwhelmingly exceeded any standards and benchmarks they had in place. One day I thought, why am I working so hard for others? In 2015, I decided to make it official and created my own company.
In 2016, I additionally launched a luxury, women’s custom clothing line, Yvon Lux, which caters to “profashionals” and celebrates confidence, class, and curves. We are a made-to-order personal service unlike anywhere else. We serve busy professional women, influencers, and socialites throughout the US. While we design and dress women of all sizes we love catering to petite profashionals because I understand the challenges of petite styling and shopping. We love filling this unmet need for petite-framed clothing options for the office, boardroom and other business and social gatherings. We’re in the process of starting a monthly/quarterly subscription service.
Many ask me which business do you prioritize more since you have two. They are both equally important and I am equally committed to both because they each serve great purposes to me. I love helping businesses grow because I can relate as a business owner. Large corporations come to me to connect with communities that they’re not too familiar with such as the Asian American communities and I love bridging brands and people. The custom-clothing line also serves a great purpose of eliminating shopping woes and frustrations when you can’t find the color and size you want. Once we have our clients’ sizes, we can truly create almost anything for them. I find this satisfying because, in a way, I treat all women like a celebrity and a VIP like they should be treated.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I love managing my 2 businesses. While they seem like two different companies, the marketing/PR firm and the custom clothing line complement each other quite well. I’ve developed business for VANT4Ge while working with my fashion clients and grew YVON LUX network and contacts through the marketing firm.
I think one of the biggest challenges is not having more than 24 hours in a day. I’m so obsessed with what I do for a living and there are 2 businesses, I just wish I can do more within a day’s work. But I have a great team who’s reliable, trustworthy, and just as passionate as I am about what we do, so I can’t complain.
For YVON LUX, I had to be a student and learn by trial and error from day one since I don’t have a fashion background and never went to school for it. But I read and researched a lot. I’m also a very resourceful person and was able to hire teammates and vendors who are very capable and can execute my visions and goals for the clothing line.
Please tell us about VANT4GE.
I went to school and grew up in New York. After determining that winters aren’t for me, I moved to California by myself and decided to explore. I moved to Orange County and have been here since 2009. Personally, and business wise—I’ve always been a Think and I’ll Do kind of gal.
I was in jewelry sales in NY and had been in sales all my life. Sales and business development is still a big part of what I do. My marketing clients benefit from my business development background because whatever marketing strategies I help put in place, they all tie back to increasing sales. They appreciate that I can see the larger marketing picture and understand the one-on-one sales process. Since I found my niche of multicultural and target marketing, I enjoy bridging people from different communities and backgrounds.
Another factor that sets us apart here is also cultural understanding of the targeted populations for my clients. We can help them reach specific ethnicities such as Vietnamese American or Chinese American or even age demographics like Millennials etc. Clients know that when they work with us, it’s not generalized and cookie-cutter. Our efforts are focused for maximum effectiveness. Social media marketing has also grown in demand. Most of our clients eventually say, we also need social media help and it is a HUGE part of gaining targeted exposure.
For YVON LUX, I think I’ve touched on why I love working and filling custom-clothing dreams and creations. Empowered women empower women. I know when women look good, feel good, they can accomplish anything. I’ve had so many clients who said, “I can never find that in my size” or “I’ve always wanted to try that color” and I love going to the drawing board and knowing that I’ll be able to create something with them that they can’t find anywhere else.
I’m direct, no bs, and considerate. This has been what my clients say that serve them well. I’m also truly a collaborative spirit. I’ve developed a great network by just wanting to help others grow and do well. I know eventually good karma will be worth it.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
We have such a big family that our Christmas presents were stacked higher than the tree! Our whole family are foodies so the holidays are fun because we love to eat and our mom is a great cook. We love blending Asian cultures and American traditions. The older sisters will cook a turkey on Thanksgiving and mom will make some fancy Chinese roasted duck or Thai seafood hotpot to go with it. Random yes, but delicious.
