Meet Yuriko Hasegawa of Tampopo Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuriko Hasegawa.

Hi Yuriko, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I came alone to the USA from Japan in 1994 and my plan at the time was to live here for five years. However, I felt the weather and culture were suitable for me as if I belonged here. Therefore, I decided to stay here until I found the true reason as to what called me to the US. During my time here, I had the opportunity to babysit one of my friend’s children. This experience reminded me of how I always dreamt of becoming a preschool teacher when I was young. I started as a small in-home daycare in West LA in 2000. We moved to Las Vegas before settling in Orange County, where we Set up our Current Daycare in Irvine, CA, in 2005. In the same year, I had my first child and met Montessori education, and completed the Montessori teacher training program at UCI.

Tampopo Club Day Care is a leading provider of high-quality childcare focusing on early childhood education based on Montessori principles. We also emphasize Japanese culture, tradition, and education.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest challenge was the Covid-19 pandemic. We had to close our Daycare for a couple of months. We tried our best to keep our Daycare afloat, applying to any government fund and city fund. We persevered and were able to still provide our education to our children through online-based Daycare. We then started an online academy right after the pandemic. I strongly believe this is the best decision I’ve made. We will be able to provide our education not only in the U.S. but worldwide. We are constantly striving and thinking of what we can do to give the children the best future possible.

As you know, we’re big fans of Tampopo Club, Inc. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Tampopoclub Daycare (six months – seven years kids daycare & Japanese teaching) Online Tampopo Academy (online distance learning 0y – mom & dad)

We are planning to open a Daycare Center Church.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My happiness comes from spending time with my family and from making other people happy. Seeing the people I assist happy always brings joy and delight to my life.
