Meet Yuki Dean of Yuki Dookie in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yuki Dean.

Yuki, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am an entertainer! I graduated from AMDA with a performing arts degree. As I graduated college, I was signed to an agency and started working right off the back. My first ever job that I booked was a commercial that aired on Hulu for two years!! Not a bad start huh? And then things started to take off. I booked a few more commercials including a commercial for proactiv. I was in a Hulu original horror film as the daughter. And I booked a mini-drama series that airs in Japan as the main character!! I also modeled for a wedding dress company and have experience walking the runway. And if you thought that was it, I have more to offer. I can act and model but more than anything, I’m a great musician. I can sing R&B, country and can rap a little too. I play the piano and the violin and can do a little something on the drums. Just climbing the latter each and every day.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m from Japan. I didn’t speak English. I moved to the US when I was in High School freshman year. Didn’t even know how to answer when people said “What’s up?” It was really tough. You have a lot of things you want to say but you don’t know how to word it and your accent is in the way so even when you speak people don’t understand you. It was the hardest time of my life and I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m so glad I’m in the US. Now I can speak English with almost no accent and be myself. I’m a funny person. I like to make jokes and make people laugh and not being able to do that because of the language barrier was so hard. But now I can make people smile and can even understand people who can’t speak English cause I’ve been there.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m just different. Different different different. I’m a singer. I love to sing R&B songs like Whitney Houston and then the 2nd song will be a country song and the 3rd will be a classical song in Latin. I can play piano like crazy and improvise on the spot all day but if you put sheet music in my face, I froze. I’m a girly girl who likes to wear a cute dress and look like a Barbie fall but likes to watch football and yell at the TV. I am the both sides of the spectrum. I love challenges and trying new things. I love learning new cultures and making friends from all around the world.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is doing better than yesterday. I don’t compare myself to anybody but myself. Everyone goes through a different path so comparing myself to someone else doesn’t make sense to me. But comparing yourself with yourself is everything. You have to improve everyday. You have to be stronger than yourself yesterday.
