Meet Young Patches

Today we’d like to introduce you to Young Patches. Him and his team shared their story with us below.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through the Young Patches story?
One Man Band from New York singing about his travels and characters met along the road to Los Angeles. Young Patches started as a bass player for various acts. He has toured Russia, the US, and earned a semi-finalist spot on America’s Got Talent (2012) with his band “The All Ways.”

He has toured & recorded with “The Cordovas” and has since focused on writing his own tunes. His music can be found on Spotify, iTunes & YouTube and he continues to tour.

Please tell us about your art.
My art is performing and songwriting about my own meandering experiences or observations of other humans whether exaggerated or not, or even true.

I like to use real life as inspiration. The world is full of so many stories. It’s wildly interesting how different everyone’s is with enormous similarities that are naked to the eye but are felt deeply in the soul. I love how everyone has a different perspective, and how a story can change once the storyteller passed the mic. So, I try to keep that in mind when writing a song; keep the cornerstone of every story and allow the characters to add their flair.

When there’s no one around, however, and I have to pull from my own perspective, I find songwriting incredibly therapeutic. The only thing I know of that can take a bad thought, and turn it into something to be proud of.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I’m not so sure the role of the artist has changed. The tools and means by which artists get their art to the public have surely changed, but art itself, I don’t think it has. I think the idea of art is to not only be an outlet for the artist but to construct a thought into something that can be perceived by others while being asked, “What do you see?” Whether you’re the artist or the other, there’s no wrong answer, just other angles of what could also be. Which, I think, can lead to understanding.
