Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Reyes.
Yolanda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My siblings and I started this company based on our dream of having our own little circus one day!
We, the Reyes Family, came to this country 15 years ago in search of a better life and more opportunities. And after many years of struggling, many learning experiences, and ups and downs in 2012 we opened our first Flying Yoga studio in Torrance and in 2015 our second Aerial Arts studio in Lomita.
It is a family and community fitness studio. We incorporate aerial arts, circus arts, flying yoga, dance, and yoga.
We love to bring the community together and to connect with our students like family.
Has it been a smooth road?
One of the main personal struggles is the fact that we are not from this country, being a foreigner and not fully speaking the language can be a bit challenging at times.
Owning a business is not easy. Some months we just don’t see the profits and we end up investing more of our own money. But it helps us to learn about marketing strategies and business opportunities.
Another challenge we face in the fitness field is pleasing all the clientele. Sometimes we just have to accept that we cannot make everyone happy.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Art Flying Aerial (AFA) Studio provides professional instruction for adults and children, both on the ground and in the air, at all levels of skills and in a safe, warm, and friendly atmosphere. Whether people are looking to refine or refresh their routine, learn a new skill, lose weight, or just keep in shape, we offer classes for everyone.
We specialize in aerial circus classes and/or private lessons in Silks, Static Trapeze, Rope, Lyra, & Hammock. Our ground classes include Partner & Group Acrobatics, Yoga, Stretch & Flexibility, Dance, Tumbling & Handstands. The Youth Circus Classes combine all of these exciting skills into one class for the children. Art Flying Aerial (AFA) Studio offers 4-5 classes per day. Courses offered include Aerial Arts, Yoga in addition to workshops in related topics.
We are proud of our studio because of the family and friendly atmosphere and community we create among our students, instructors, and members.
In AFA, we are all a family and we help each other and cheer for each other. And our students achieve progress in every class.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Lomita can be not so friendly at times. But it is a very quiet city.
We would definitely recommend a city that helps small businesses and cares about the local economy.
Improve, personally, the traffic light. We need it for the safety of our community.
