Meet Yolanda Barker of Fabulesevents

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yolanda Barker.

Hi Yolanda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
As a single mom on a budget, I searched endlessly for an event planner to help with my daughter’s birthday party. After being offered less than what I expected, and failing to find affordable customizations for any budget, FabulessEvents was created. Off and on for 18 years in the making, I’ve come to understand my business brings me peace. I love creating!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

The company I worked for initiated layoffs and I soon found myself without income nor savings. I went back to college and completed my credentials in Event Management and Design through Loyola Marymount University. Believing God would make a way, I came across an opportunity to be a vendor for an event hosting a celebrity guest panel. I was reminded of the quote, ‘Walk by Faith’. With my last $250, I did just that! Networking at the event proved conducive! Shortly after, I was hired to coordinate a child’s birthday party. Implementing the quote, ‘Walk by Faith’, as my day-to-day motto has gotten me through the impact inflicted by Covid-19. I often contemplate my ability to provide for my children, quickly remembering to stay faithful. Event designing & execution is my passion and my therapy! I have hopes for longevity within my career.

Oh, absolutely not. Event Coordination is a “who you know” industry. I am and have always been a dedicated mom, which has prevented me from networking. Gaining business exposure can be extremely difficult. Starting a business with nothing was challenging. Even with my years of experience, I still find myself facing adversity.

Covid-19 nearly put my business to a halt. Close proximity and large gatherings are the center of celebrations. Unfortunately, I do not qualify for most small business grants as they’re based off revenue and employees.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah, wedding, birthday, Quinceañera, grand opening, red carpet, you name it! No matter the occasion, we specialize in detailed events guaranteeing each is unique. Not only are details important to us, taking the stress away from our customers is our number one priority. We love the challenge!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see myself coordinating for the Academy Awards or the Grammy’s! I’d love to share my creative talents with other creative artists. I also see being able to afford more inventory. Providing our customers with more rental prop options not only increases volume but allows for growth. A celebration for every occasion!
