Meet Yiqiao Zhao

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yiqiao Zhao.

Hi Yiqiao, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started as a photographer, and I did photography exhibitions in London, Beijing and Shanghai. I moved to America to continue my career as a cinematographer. Along the way, I have developed a strong understanding of visual storytelling and cinematic aesthetics. I have worked internationally with clients such as Chivas, Coca-Cola, and Toyota.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
is a tough road. Same with all cinematographers, I started from the ranking, still photographer, grip, electrician, camera assistant, and cinematographer. There is no smooth road for a filmmaker. The covid made 2020 a hard year for many filmmakers.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a cinematographer, I shot feature movies, commercials, and music videos. I studied everything about camera operating, including a fluid head, gimbal, drone, and Steadicam. But I am not so proud of it because all cameramen/women have to know them to live in the industry. So far, I can’t see I am apart from my peers. I am still learning from co-workers each time we show up on set. Keep starving, keep foolish.
