Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Yasmine Mason.
Dr. Mason grew up on a family farm in Nevada understanding the importance of growing organic vegetables and organically raised animals. With a passion for teaching others about proper nutrition and health, Dr. Mason attended Palmer College of Chiropractic-West in 1996. In 2000, together with her husband, Derek Mason, DC, they started Life Spring Chiropractic in Newport Beach. After many years in practice, she took some time off to start a family. During that time, she began to experiment with traditional fermentation techniques to help her patients with digestive issues. She immediately had a knack for fermenting her own zingy yogurt, making tasty krauts, and brewing her flavorful and fizzy kombucha. Realizing that there was a real need for healthy fermented foods, she opened Fermentation Farm in September of 2014 with the vision of building a strong community of people who share her passion for these handcrafted, traditional foods and drinks. All of these nourishing products are made with only the best fresh, local, and organic ingredients. In addition to fermented foods, she also stocks the shop with her delicious organic bone broths, local gluten-free goodies, local grass-fed and pastured meats, and other handcrafted products.
Fermentation Farm Moto: Healthy Gut, Healthy Life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Rapid growth is great if you can keep up with the overwhelming demand. It has been amazing to offer so many fermented and traditional food products that the community was ready for, but at the same time, keeping up with the demand is a challenge! Since Fermentation Farm was the first shop of its kind in Orange County, there has been a lot of trial and error along the way. The shop has been open a little over 3 1/2 years now, and we’re about to enter our 4th buildout/expansion. We have been extremely fortunate in that many practitioners in the area were also yearning for fermented foods and drinks for their patients. Fermentation Farm has filled that need. We work tirelessly to keep up with the demands of our ever-expanding membership base.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Fermentation Farm – what should we know?
Fermentation Farm is a membership-based retail shop. All of our foods and drinks are made on-site in our commercial kitchen. We specialize in lacto-fermented sauerkrauts and pickles. We also offer fermented drinks like kombucha, a fermented tea, and root beer made from 10 stewed roots including sassafras, sarsaparilla, ginger and burdock, to name a few. Lastly, we also make traditional bone broth, rich in minerals and collagen.
We offer the following classes monthly: Kombucha Class, Kraut Class, Bone Broth Class and Coconut Yogurt Class.
We are so proud to offer high quality organic fermented foods to our community. We are also extremely proud that so many practitioners in the area trust us to nourish their patients.
Small batch ferments, pure organic ingredients, all glass packaging and our strong membership community set us apart from others. Our fermented foods and drinks are unique and different compared to any other fermented products available.
